Hi Guys.

Hoping to tour some of the Scottish Lowlands, possibly as early as Easter this year, We've previously taken in the NC500 and would welcome any advice on places to visit and a route for up to 14 nights.

Thanks

Mark
Sorry if I should of posted this somewhere else....

Guys,
Thanks for all your advice,
Very much appreciated,
thinking we will do the 300 first, take a break for a couple of days exploring Edinburgh then undecided at the moment on next part.
We stopped at Hawick in the Borders on our way back from the 500 a couple of years ago and loved the welcome.
Thanks again for the help.

You could easily spend a week or 2 on the A75 between Portpatrick and the M6
Portpatrick is beautiful, 3 good sized sites, Garlieston, Isle if Whitehorn, Kirkcudbright, Glencaple, Newton Farm, Port William, Kippford, Rockcliffe, Sands of Luce, take your pick.
I second Port Patrick. We loved that pretty little harbour town, will definitely return there later this year. 👍

Really enjoying this thread, haven't lived in Scotland since 1977, not sure how they are managing without me 😉
We are headed up for 3 weeks, in prime midgie season, may go a lot farther north, and really want to spend more time in the south west. Will depend on sis's 70th arrangements. In the past have bagged relatives drives, as well as using campsites, but those are no longer available. Will be having a closer look at the suggestions.

Start at Carlisle, the castle and cathedral well with a visit. Overnight in the car park next to the castle. A tour of the Scottish border towns, Jedburgh, Kelso, Hawick, Selkirk, Melrose, Coldstream etc won’t disappoint. Plenty to see and do and your English Heritage card will get you into the many Historic Scotland places. Just back across the border is Flodden Field where once again the Scots invaded England. Back out to the coast at Berwick and head northwards. Lots of historic castles, beaches and old fishing towns to see. Also an air museum with a Concorde if that interests you. Continue round the coast to Edinburgh if you want to include it.

Have you considered a ferry trip across to Arran, It is called Scotland in miniature, it is a wonderful place for wildlife watching and has one of my favourite distilleries Lochranza!

Where did you stay in Portpatrick Steve?
Both campsites have access to the village via the coastal path, or if you don’t fancy the path at night then a slightly longer walk via the road.

Thanks, are the sites open all year?
We’ve certainly used them in winter times so I’d assume they are, there is also a pub sits on the road just outside the sites that does decent food

When you say both campsites, which ones are they specifically?
There only is two 😂 they are side by side.
One is called castle point and the other is called something else 😂😂 can’t remember, if you google campsites PP they will come up. You might find 3 come up but one closed to tourers a couple of years ago, think it’s called sunny something

Thankyou, they both don’t open until March, we were looking at going next week
Must have been the one that’s now closed as that’s the one we used all the time, it was pretty basic but half the the price. There is a CL a couple of miles out if you have bikes or you can park at the lighthouse but that a couple miles walk along the coast
