Mozzies help !

We have a couple of the Thermacell standalone mozzie units - one of the small units when I’m out alone and a Patio Shield Lantern when we’ve been camping. Very effective and I use the cheaper ‘Raid’ brand pads (in bulk from eBay) rather than their expensive own brand ones. The small butane cartridges I also recharge myself from a Pound Shop lighter refill can - How To videos on YouTube.

It is not a new phenomenon I remember thirty years ago having like a London smog of mosquitos right across the French and Spanish Med coastline. Your headlights were dimmed like driving in fog.

We have always found the Camargue to be the worst for mozzies. Go West (that would make a good song) to the region around Toulouse, far less mozzies.

If you click on the highlighted text in the post it’ll take you to the Thermacell product pages for information. They’re available from the usual online outlets but shop around as often the camping stores will have them on offer.

For the butane cartridges, once you have a few empties - the Babyliss branded ones for hair products are identical - videos like this one will guide you through refilling them:

Four weeks ago we were in Spain in and around Salou, loads of bites on both of us, far more than normal. Moved up to Adge, again loads more bites than normal. We were using odomos on both of us and a plug in anti-mossie over night.
That's it we are staying in England this summer Just booked 2 weeks in Cornwell.

2 weeks in Vandee France took a plug in mozzie preventer, 2 tins of buzz off, never used as didn't see 1 on the site.
Stayed in Kenilworth on the way back and both of us got bitten by we assume Horse Flies
Swmbo's calf doubled in size, one behind my knee oozed for days.

Spray the van with insect spray before bed time , then go for a 10minute walk to let it clear
then go to sleep

I learned that one in Egypt from a local , when we went out during the day , spray the room
by the time we went to bed they were all dead , that was after buying all kind of magic cures that didn’t work , simple but effective
But how do you get back in from your walk without letting more of the b@£#rds back in.

I swear its that last trip out with the dogs at night that lets the buggers in the van

Years ago, after several Greek Island holidays I got so fed up with getting huge, egg-sized, itchy, weeping lumps come up with every mozzie bite I decided to start taking anti-histamine tablets for the week before I went away, and while I was there, so if I did get bitten there was no reaction. It works.

Can"t add to the deterrents, but the French pharmacy's do a cream called Onctose that is really effective in treating the bite's
This is a French brand of 1% hydrocortisone cream which is available at any British pharmacy so you can get some before you go.

Not really. My mum in l'Union and me in Balma are having serious prob, both cities are in Toulouse suburbs. We don't dare going out of the house or of the car when visiting one another. Instant attack, within a few seconds we can have up to 10 bites!!!
