Motorway tolls charges France,Spain and Portugal

That's not my definition of enjoying any trip in the motorhome.
I agree but i am too young to give up work and this is all i can do at the moment which is better than nothing, if i would have waited for the boat that would of been 2 more days i would of lost which is just too much to lose after just taking 3 weeks off (self employed).

From what I can see the French automatic toll booths use height and axle numbers to decide what class you are in. They don't weigh anything.

I have a toll tag and usually follow the trucks because their lanes open the barriers quicker, so no stopping. And I usually piss off the car drivers that had overtaken me by getting through quicker.
Can’t be axle numbers we have never been charged more than class two and have four axles two on the van and two on the car trailer🤔

If we are allowed to help people do things correct technically why are we forbidden to help them do things correct grammatically?
Don’t blame the messenger I did not make the rules🤔 that particular rule is very appropriate for some folk on here that have dislexia and cannot help that perhaps their grammar or spelling is wrong so we should be considerate of others and not correct them all the time.?

I hate to play the grammar police, but please use "have" in place of "of".
I'm trying to be as polite as i can.
If you hate it why do it?

Did either of you misunderstand the post being critiqued? If not why bother saying anything? I wouldn't of. ;)

I was not aiming at you just at the rule that you quoted.

Because we don't care about spelling here. Never have. Pull others up on grammar or spelling here gets you a ban. Pedants encourage pendants and pedantry puts people off posting.

Yes! We are a tag axle, 5.7t, 3.1m tall and are charged class 4 on most motorways, so we try and avoid!!!

There was a thread about a 'Mango' toll tag a little while ago that allowed larger / heavier motorhomes to use. Maybe use the search button on here and type in Mango - then you should find it and lots of useful info. Sadly, the thread appeared after we had left the UK so will probably apply for a Mango toll tag when back in UK in May/June

Hope this helps!
Be careful, Steve and Denise got one for there larger Moho and it didn’t work on the way down last week.

There are some on here that are great mechanics and sparkies that cannot spell or grammatical i know which one I want fixing my vehicle 🚜 and it's not the one reading it out of a book.

Spanish and Portuguese tolls aren't as expensive as France so less of an issue. Do you know that many of the maps and atlases show which roads are tolled or not? It's really not a good idea to blindly follow the satnav as it can lead you to all sorts of hazards
The toll booths on the AP68 down to Zaragoza, were being dismantled last summer and we did not pay a penny, on that part of the trip.

Are you sure? The AP68 from where it meets the AP15 (from Pamplona) to just outside of Zaragoza was still tolled when we used it on 15 January this year. The A68 runs parallel to it and isn't tolled and looks to be good, so that is what we will use in the future.

We used it June July last year and it was free from Bilbao to Zaragoza. In fact most of the toll buildings were being demolished.

Are you sure you did not transfer to the A68? Once we passed the toll barrier there was only 2 junctions before the AP15. For a lot of the journey we could see the non tolled A68 on our right side (as we drove North). We could see it had more junctions on it.

It's a bit of a moving target atm, hard to know which tolls remain. Pretty sure the Ap7 below Alicante is still tolled and much of the northern bit around Leon and Santiago is still Tolled but who knows, only good thing is apart from the tunnels by Andorra Spanish tolls are generally not worth avoiding, unlike France

I have a great dislike for the French tolls not for the cost but for the inconvenience, as a solo traveler I have to pull up turn engine off open passenger window and try and access the money/card slots which are positioned for cars or HGV either to high or to low. Along with this I don't know if its just me but I always have trouble at the barrier either it wont accept my cards or it refuses the cash. can any one recommend a tag which I can top up when needed

Oooo ... Can I have a pendant please ... I assume they have nice smiley faces on. 😄

Not so great when you consider 2.2 euros a litre and the 616+ miles and over 150 euros on the tolls plus the £241 boat fare its cheaper and far less stressful on the boat thats for sure, i will take Santander to Portsmouth any day over travelling through France that time of year. Oh and the tolls were even more as that figure is from Bordeaux it does not count the tolls up to Bordeaux.

Saying that if i had time then i would just take a slow drive through France avoiding the tolls where possible as then it doesn't matter, for me though that's a long way off.

Nice cruise to either Bilbao or Santander, if your stomach can take the Bay of Biscay when it's rough, mine couldn't on way back, still I did lose some weight!!

We drove the route from Santander to Cartagena which took us down through Burgos and around the east side of Madrid and only came across 1 toll near Madrid for the whole journey that was mid December. When we took the Zaragosa route the year before there were quite a few tolls to get to the same place and it was also an hour longer.

We found the mango did not work at all for us in France but great in Spain and we are 3.2mtrs high and 6.7t there may be another option for our return we overtook hundreds of lorries but they all caught us up and passed us while we were ********g about at the toll booths, stupid idea🤣
Really surprised at this, did you use the lorry lane where you keep moving as this is what I found most reliable although you still have to get within a cm of the barrier before it would lift but it always worked for us. We are approx 3.1 maybe 3.2m as we now have the Truma AC on the roof but we are only a max of 5T for the motorhome but then we are a Tag axle and towing a small car trailer which is another 1.3t

As Speve suggests, emovis is the one, especially for lone travellers like us.
I drove from Calais to Murcia in December, tolls all the way. Class 2. Total costs £88 in France, £20 Spain. I top up fuel at supermarkets when I can after leaving motorway to find the night's aire. Otherwise off-motorway fuel stations.
In the winter, when you just want to get south, I think it's money well spent. Going back, I do the slow meandering journey in the better weather.

French ones are increasingly contact less so easier. Lhd motor and revolut card is pretty easy.
