I am hoping to get a blue badge shortly due to deteriorating health. Given the usual issues about moho parking in towns and cities, is there much benefit to a blue badge when using the motorhome I wonder.
For example we are taking ours to Oxford and Cirencester later in January.

Of course, you are entitled to an opinion but why not. More than a bit stupid to spend money for no logical reason.
Nowhere have I seen that the free VED has to be used only on your primary means of transport, but I'm happy to be correct by you.
I didn't say it was a requirement for it to be your primary form of transport but I think that it's taking the mickey using it on a leisure vehicle . What is the purpose do you think of giving less able people free VED?

I did before it's only fair that people who are relying more on their vehicle as they are less mobile should pay no VED on their main mode of transport.

Yes I saw that and to me, that was pretty obvious, so I wonder why you asked the question and thought maybe you had more to offer as an explanation.
So why do you feel it has to be their main mode of transport when that is not a requirement, surely if it's a saving for somebody that qualifies for the free VED what does it matter as long as they get the saving of the cost.

Because they are in the example given using the allowance on a leisure vehicle not presumably their primary form of transport. I don't see it as monetary gift but a reasonable measure for people relying on a vehicle for their transport. I think it's grossly unfair for some people well off to use the ved reduction on a second form of transport when a lot of people who would qualify for ved reduction can't afford to run a car.

So you think it should be means tested then?

Essgeebee ,
If you’re coming to Ciren, I recommend that you use The Beeches car park in Beeches Road, as it has many bays large enough to cope with ‘overhangs’ and is also the cheapest (if you have to pay - free on Sundays (y) ) in the town. It’s about a 10 minute walk to the Market Place (town centre) and is also the easiest car park to enter/exit in a larger vehicle…..
Is there no street parking there?
You are allowed to park on double yellow lines with a blue badge as long as you are not causing an obstruction.

Quite a few years ago, I recall a wheelchair user who nominated his neighbour’s vehicle as his main form of transport, thus it benefitted from zero rate Road Fund Licence (as it was then).

He was picked up every day and driven around the country by his neighbour (best mate too) who was a delivery driver. The arrangement suited both.
The disabled guy got out and about regularly, and his neighbour had free tax concession.

BTW, the vehicle was an articulated lorry, and the duty saved at the time was about £1700 PA

All perfectly legal.

Many disabled vehicle purchases involve having extra cost of adaptions or being bigger than able bodied may need for wheelchair storage etc so get the tax free as it’s an essential need on one vehicle only IF they qualify for the mobility needs ie the higher level PIP. Blue badge doesn’t do anything other than give parking benefits.
The blue badge gives the ability to park in places more accessible and in some places free to avoid the issues of using a pay machine. It has no bearing on the ability to afford or not the parking costs.

True but the delivery guy wouldn’t be able to go alone unless he was delivering on behalf of the guy in the chair 👍

Yes they do. Here is an extract from their conditions of carriage, you would not be on a coach but a bus so the bit under other dogs applies unless yours is an assistance dog.

Animals

We welcome and encourage assistance dogs on our buses and coaches and they are carried and welcome aboard at all times. We would ask you, though, to ensure you comply with any reasonable instruction given by the bus driver or the conductor whilst you and your dog are on board.

A maximum of two dogs at any time are normally allowed on any of our buses but this will be subject to the discretion of the driver. Similarly, if you wish to travel with two or more dogs, you will need permission from the driver.

Other dogs (or a small animal) are welcome at the discretion of our drivers and, if they are permitted on board, they must be well behaved and of no danger or nuisance to other customers or our employees. The only dogs that are permitted on our coaches are assistance dogs. Dogs can be dangerous so, where appropriate, they must travel in accordance with the Dangerous Dogs Act.
Thank you for that. Very helpful.
Therein lies a potential problem. Several years ago when we were on a site outside Cambridge (actually, it may even have been Oxford - my memory let’s me down sometimes), and the P&R driver refused to take us because we had a dog. A little Cairn. The driver discretion bit can be awkward if you want to get back to your site and they won’t allow you on.

Thanks for that. Very useful. We like Cirencester and will bear that one in mind.

There is, but many of the streets within the town are narrow, and I wouldn’t fancy arguing the toss about whether or not an ‘obstruction’ was being caused, to be honest…..

A blur badge only helps with parking, any vehicle the badge holder is in. Free car tax is a different kettle of fish altogether 🥃👍

We have 2 blue badges one we have had for a long time it's FIL's, a wheelchair user and the other is more recent that's Mrs. Ex's she can walk short distances, we use them both when appropriate, I'm so fed up with the government and the MP's who claim everything on expenses that I use them whenever possible to not have to pay for parking in any vehicle
It's got to the stage where I grumble if I'm on my own and have to pay 😡
