Motorhomers upset Swanage

I think a mountain is being made out of a molehill with the aire situation. Yes, it would cost money to set it up - but have an area set aside, with a waste disposal point/toilets on site.
Parking meter which charges your card, with vehicle registration number and issues a ticket - a code or your reg could be entered to activate any hook up/charge point and allow access to a facilities block. Many campsites have this already (coded facilities) The meter would then allow up to 48 hours, no return within 48 hours.
£15 a night would be acceptable I would have thought - yes expensive to set up, but no cash involved to be stolen, vandals cannot access the facilities - think it would work?
Sounds quite simplistic don't it......
Would it not be easier to expand the CL network. I’m guessing that they would then be self financing.
I think it would be difficult if not impossible for council run Aires to exist without public funding.

CL'S would be privately owned and run - a council aire, though would cost the taxpayer initially for building, would support itself/earn a revenue stream over time. At least motorhomers would not be targeted as they are feeding the local enconomy through charges, and not irritating the residents, which should keep all happy!

Nothing worse that being accused of things you haven't done, just because you work hard and have a nice motorhome!

How would one expand the CL network? The certificating organisations don't set them up themselves. New CFL/CL/CS sites are only created if the landowner is willing and has the money to do so.

I don't know what the costs involved are but, from what I've heard, they are not insubstantial so it could be quite a while before payback made them self financing. Whilst a private landowner only has himself to satisfy, local authorities have to work within the bounds of value for money for local tax payers.

Sorry your having a laugh if you think this tight mob on here are ging to shell £15 for an aire!!!!
The point is that there is free camping/wild camping and then there is those that like to go to sites. Most of those in Swanage if not all could afford a site if they want too, however they CHOOSE not to.

respect and tollerance is what is needed here on BOTH sides.

That's exactly what I though. So we agree it's a none starter.:thumb:

At the risk of upsetting some people... freeloaders don't use CLs or 'pay to use' aires.

It's nothing to do with freedom, noise or any other excuse.. some object in principal to paying for parking.. you read it all the time,

" why should I pay to park, I already pay VED, MOT Insurance etc .. I'll park up where I damn well please." or words to that effect.

and before anyone gets upset and spits their dummy out , I am not talking about genuine freedom campers who find quiet out of the way places to park up for the night .. bother no one and cause no problems..

I'm talking about the freeloaders who park up on a free car park or promenade and stay for a week or more, dump waste indiscriminately and get up the local's nose.. they are the real problem, who get all motorhomers a bad name.. and eventually banned.

Thats asuming their credit rating would warrant them a card to use in the machine. Most travelers are strictly cash only.:Rofl1:

At last ............... I've found the category into which I fit.....

Genuine freedom camper
