MotorhomeFun is getting a glossy (Digital) Magazine

Will there be a “Name and Shame the Dealers” section?

Please please pretty please.....

Surely we have that in the "Reviews" section... :)

The trouble with Name and Shame is evident it the review section "ABCD Motorhomes are awful" and the next review is "ABCD Motorhomes are the best dealer in the World" Jim would need a legal department to investigate every accusation! So whilst we would all love it, I can't see it ever happening unless the person that wants to Name & Shame wanted to start their own web site to slag off the dealer and risk the legal implications

Now you have given food for thought.

I think I understand where you are coming from Jim - a business model related to an advertising income stream based on material which includes 're purposing' material from your site and feedback/articles from your existing MH audience - motorhome enthusiasts that hopefully encourages a bigger audience.
Point of difference: I believe that both the CMC and the CCC club magazines are exceptionally dull, do not have a strong editorial framework and both think more of the advertising revenue is more important than the content for their audience. Within 5 min of flicking through both these magazines they are in the re cycling or the digital waste bin. I really do hope your publication has a real point of difference, from the sample front cover the look and example headlines it unfortunately looks very similar to others and I am not convinced and do not feel it would necessarily encourage more of the latent audience you are trying to encourage. You haven't a problem with your existing audience as I am sure we would all support you. Hopefully you will show a real point of difference in style and substance. Good luck and I look forward to seeing its launch.

So what would you do as editor?

Good idea! Good luck with it.
I could do a Grumpy Old Man article.....every month/week/day!
But there may be no shortage of same on here........but Im cheap too!
:D:D;);)(y)(y)

Well, I think the very first issue should have a review of generators and feature it, full colour, on the front page. :gum:

What an understatement.

A bit like some bloke in the USA who one day woke up and said "I know, I'll start making electric cars".

I probably know more about making Electric Cars than I do about Magazine Publishing. '\

Can we have a Page 3 for the men and Pages 4&5 for the Ladies....(y)

Motorhome confessions section.

For example.

Telling the wife you have a reversing camera for a reason and you are really offended by her offering to get out of the van at an aire in front of all the watching people just so that she can help you reverse your pride and joy into the space available. But deciding the low post just to the right, which was in a bit of blind spot (or so i say) would not cause an issue.

Both of you assuming the other has taken the electric out of the socket before leaving. (We havent done this yet)

A most useless and most useful purchase section

An inverter to provide electricity for the wife's hairdryer and a set of clippers for the wifes hair.

Tips and hints section

Freezing grapes to put into your wine rather than using ice which waters it down

Can we have a Page 3 for the men and Pages 4&5 for the Ladies....(y)
Would we be able to find any one to fill 2 pages for the ladies?

How many of @ShiftZZ closer friends got his selfie Christmas Card? That would be good in the Christmas issue!

A Reader's Lifes section (sic)

Abusing the photo of the day thread and selecting some of the best ones (there are numerous ones on there) of motorhomes in outstanding aires or beautiful spots.

Good luck Jim, I'm sure it will be a brilliant resource ... let me know if I can help with anything.
Minxy,

I have been in secret conversation with Jim, so secret he doesnt know about it but he came up with the idea of

Minxy the Agony Aunt

and he asked me to check your skills in this area.

Dear Minxy,
I have been a secret motorhomer for 10 years now and recently upgraded my van so that it can take a motorbike. I have read that the payload might be a problem so i have attached an A frame as well which can carry my motorobike and generator to Spain as this will be required to run overnight as my gas detection system will deter would be thieves. But in order to achieve a reasonable driving weight on a toll road, i thought i could just let my waste water go whilst driving and maybe empty my casette into a public toilet. If all this is in order how much wine can i bring back as a member of the caravan club?

That reminds me of another funster with a Globecar but I'm saying no more ... I hasten to add I haven't actually 'seen' him in that attire but ....

As a non-drinker it is difficult to feel your 'pain' regarding the wine issue so my advice is to forget it and bring back loads of chocolate* bars instead ... this has the benefit of being cheaper and apparently it may also improve your immune system but more importantly increases your serotonin levels, so makes you happier without the hangover. The main bonus however is that you can get a LOT more of it on board without causing a payload issue! (*Warning ... careful consumption is still required to ensure you don't end up with a choccy belly instead of a wine/beer belly.)

So what would you do as editor?
Okay good call.
1. From a pool of ‘expert’ contributors make a small editorial on line group.
2. If as you say you have little experience in publishing make yourself the ‘ringleader’ someone that makes the final decisions from ideas submitted.
3. Commission 2 young graduates on a freelance basis - one with editorial and one with graphic bias. Young not because of cost but because of a creative perspective.
4. Ask those who are planning a trip to summit an idea of their plans and if they felt the experience and knowledge would be interesting to others. Then pick a small selection and either supply them with an incentive and a system/process that allows them to record their experience.
5. Ditto the same for people that are for example in the process of buying, exchanging, equipping, upgrading their motorhome.
6. Understand why you have a good group of subscribers
7. Understand why you are only attracting 1 in 10 motorhomers
8. Submit a series of questions to subscribers which would allow you to understand what might work deliver your imitative and what wouldn’t (the random comments so far on this link could be more focused rather than a ‘free for all’)
9. Have fun but do have a point of difference - don’t follow the pack.
10. Use your own DNA and you will be successful.
Not meant to be patronising.
