Hi all, I have damaged the work top in motorhome (cup fell out of cupboard)
It's about 5cm deep. What is best filler to use and what do motorhomers use to cover worktops with? Something bit more robust than vinyl.
Thank you in advance
Anthony

many many years! since I was a kid
Never seen a van worktop 5cm thick yet. If the impacted fragments are large, you may be able to hook them out. Repair with 2 part plastic filler and reset the pieces in the top layer. If not, texture the top layer to match and paint to match surrounding worktop.

Two pack car filler is your best bet for filling the hole, but for covering it with anything other than vinyl you, may well struggle and might just have to live with it.

When a tin of tuna fell out and damaged the worktop in the last van, I went to a tile shop and bought a circular tile that 'toned' with the worktop. With judicial use of a Dremel, I cut away to fit and then trimmed the cardboard honeycomb filler so that the tile fitted more or less flush before fixing with some epoxy. Carefully grouted around the edges. It was still there several years later when we PX'd the van.

You can get this stuff in various shades

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ColorFill-Laminate-Worktop-Compound-Sealant/dp/B07Y55F4BN/?tag=mhf04-21

As long as you can colour match, the item is great for repairing laminate surfaces. I had a heavy object fall against my side cabinet in my Motorhome, creating a broken surface with deep dent, this product filled it in and dried hard, did not need to sand back as I had used a plastic spatula to apply it. The only difficulty was having to purchase two or three tubes until I got the correct shade of cream.

Folk advertise for making these kind of repairs. We did this (ie hired someone) and were not happy with the result. To be fair, the table top had a “pattern” which would have been difficult to effect an invisible repair.

Did the same to mine put 2 holes in mine
Is it corrugated cardboard inside ?
Mine was
I used a body filler first as epoxy would soak away into the cardboard
Then when dry topped off with epoxy
I then rubbed it down and brought a sheet of laminate and recovered it

Since 2021, this time
When our microwave came out of the overhead unit and crashed into the worktop on its way to the floor, taking a lump out of the surface on the way, I put some super glue on the dent and let it soak in then repeated. This at least makes it waterproof again until you can get to a better repair. I never got any further.

When I punched a hole in the table top of the last MH,by dropping something on it, I re-covered the top with vynl floor boards sort of colour matched to the existing surfaces, easy to fit, easy to trim and just glued down...much stronger than the original, easy to clean.....
