Hi all. We have a new van and have had installed the Huawei Compact Plus 4g LTE Advanced Router with a Smarty sim card, supplied by Motorhome Wifi.

Usage in UK was fine, but we've crossed into Europe and cannot get connected. I've been in touch with Adam over the past 10 days, I'm getting nowhere.

To use the Smarty card in Europe I need to change the APN in the router settings. To access router settings I need the Huawei app to connect to my Huawei device, and this it will not do, or I certainly can not get it to do so. I can't get to see the Huawei Smart Home Main Screen as per picture.

Can anyone advise please? Is it me? 🙂 Am I missing something obvious or has anyone else had this problem and has the solution?
I set the app to scan for the router but it cannot find or connect.

Many TIA.

We have the same motorhomewifi set up. We're now near Antalya in Turkey and it's never missed giving us WiFi.
We were in the mountains today, satnav couldn't get a satellite signal but we had WiFi.
I particularly like the fact that I can unplug it, stick it in my pocket and take it out with us.

Click on number 6 (as in your screenshot) on the HUAWEI App, then you will be able to change the APN

£419 squids ???££?????!!????????

I've never paid that much for a car !!!!!!!!!!!

Think I'll stick to 1pMobile SIM and using phone as a WiFi hotspot . . . . . .
That's a very fair point. We bought ours as one of a number of accessories in our brand new van, whereby as a percentage of overall cost it was very little.
It is the first 'mifi' device I have bought. An alternative to your suggestion, a friend of mine has a Huawei Cube, cost 60 odd quid, it's a Bluetooth speaker and a router, insert a data sim and it provides WiFi in its vicinity. I've told him not to buy anything else unless he feels dissatisfied with it for any reason.

That's fair comment too and is good to hear. I hadn't considered the fact that it can be carried with you (as it has 2 aerial cables plugged in), so that's something to take into account, thanks. 👍

Also, in fairness, many of the issues I've had have been related to the Smarty card. Prior to Brexit we just had free roaming. Now we have to jump through hoops and accept meagre data allowances. I've found the Smarty app difficult. My card is data only but they issue a phone number. When logging on they insist on sending a code to the unused phone number. I select to have the code sent by email, sometimes I get one and sometimes I don't, and sometimes when I do the code is not accepted for whatever reason.
I have we'll over a hundred apps on my phone, including banking apps, and none have been remotely anything like as difficult to use as the Huawei and Smarty apps. I guess it's sods law that when dealing with this mifi unit, I have to use the 2 worst apps on my phone.

I’ve got the Motorhome Wifi system and getting the email for the code as never failed. Crediting the Smarty sim via the App never been an issue. Coverage anywhere we’ve been as been very good. The only problem was when we went to France and needed to contact Motorhome Wifi in order for them to talk us through the issue.

Like you we negotiated the system in with the overall deal for the van, and very happy with it. (y)

How are you getting on with your mifi router abroad? have you tried installing a sim card from the country you are in?

We've installed a Vodafone SIM for Greece and a Turkcell SIM for Turkey, had no problems with either.

Take your Mifi with you when you go to buy the SIM and make sure it works.

Hi all, a bit of a thread resurrection. In Germany now and cannot get my Motorhome Wifi device to work, again.

It's the Compact+, same as before, it's been in use throughout the year, no problem.

I have used up my 12gb capped roaming allowance on my Smarty sim, I've bought an another 10gb, but all I can get now from my router is No Service.

I've plugged the router to my laptop and am on the page as per screenshot.

Stupid question: is the Mobile data On or Off? If its On wouldn't it say On, but then how do I turn Off? Surely it is On and that's the Off button showing on the screen? 🙂

Anyway, whichever way I try, and I reboot the router each time, all my Motorhome Wifi Compact + ever says is No Service.

Any thoughts guys? TIA.

Just to add a few thoughts we have a motorhome WiFi set up with the cat 7 router and didn’t use the smarty sim however did use firstly a 3 internet with legs sim? Which worked perfectly and then used a Tiekom data sim which again was faultless I wonder because you have used your data allowance then purchased add ons are you trying to use that data in the same fair usage month as the original and therefore being stopped from using as you have already had your fair usage allowance?🤔

Thanks, but that all related to the initial set up of the Smarty sim, I've made much use of the sim since, up until I had to buy more data for this trip.

Thanks. My understanding is the "fair use" quota is within the monthly allowance, and we're free to pay for more if we wish to.
