I'm thinking of putting a couple of security cameras on the van. Advice is needed.

I've seen quite a few vans lately with the Blink wireless cameras and thinking that would be a good idea for us. One to see the dog when we are shopping etc and then security side.
Wireless inside and maybe out. will obviously need a wifi connection so will just buy a portable Huawei for now just for this and use a data sim that will cover Europe as well. I have Starlink for everything else but it's not permanent connection (it's not 12v or roof fix)

So I'm wondering how much data will they use when just turned on and monitoring? I don't want them on a screen permanent just through the phone app maybe. So I'm assuming nothing or very little is used data wise in this scenario. You would use the data when you start to watch the feed? is this correct

Is it only used when you connect to log in and view?

I've used 3 sims before in Europe Prepaid 12GB. Would this be enough to cover a 90 day stay. Camera only. ?

Any help is gratefully received

I use a ‘ring’ camera in our moho
One of the things you can do is set it to record and alert on motion only
This means it’s not using data most of the time… only when it ‘sees’ something moving, record it and send to the cloud.
Can’t tell you how much data it uses as I constantly use data to send battery levels etc, so my internet connection is always on and being used
You use the app to view the recordings so unless showing ‘live’ view, you are not connecting to the camera

Iv'e seen a few use Ring doorbell as well. Was looking at the Blink cameras myself

Got Ring doorbell at home but to use the record facility you have to pay yet another subscription.

To be honest I only want to view when I log in to check the dog or to see what is happening around without going outside when off grid parkup.

Really depends on how often/how long you choose to log-on and view. Perhaps an indication may be that streaming standard definition TV uses around 1 GByte an hour. So, if you are out and about and log-in for 5 mins every hour, you will possibly use around 0.5 GByte if you were out for 6 hours. Not sure if this may be helpful. Perhaps another way to look at this is that your 12 GBytes over 90 days equates to some 133 MBytes a day on average, If the usage is similar to TV streaming, this will probably only give you a little over 2 minutes a day…….but my maths may be wrong!!!

Thanks. That sounds feasible. 2mins a day is more than enough for a quick check and wouldn’t be every day.
I might start shopping (y)
