On 4th van so not a total newbie....
Looking for a sat nav capable of inputting dimensions on which works with Android auto.

Previously use sygic on a tablet which works well, but is awful on Android auto, very basic and glitchy, same with copilot.

Currently trying a free version of car tomtom which seems good, but is it worth paying £56pa for truck, magic earth is not bad either.

Anyone able to recommend other options?

Hi Tony. I have used Sygic for many years for my cars. They have now brought out a dedicated motorhome version which allows you to set dimensions and weights of your motorhome. For a tenner a year they allow you to download monthly up to date maps.

Been using it on our spring trip to France, Spain and Portugal and it has been faultless so far.

Hi Peter, in our last van I used on a tablet and it was good, however this van a tablet is impractical to use, and it has built in Android auto, I tried it on there but it was awful, very basic, and kept crashing, sheam as previously it was good.

Give Magic Earth a try, nothing to lose as it a freebie and I have been using it for a couple of years now, including our recent trip to New Zealand.
You can input your van dimensions and weight by using the truck option in the menu.
It only uses data if you opt to use the live traffic updates, which can be switched off if you don't want to used data.

Yes, have used that, guidance is not quite as clear as tomtom, but is size specific.

Didn't like the Fiat sat nav that came with the van, tried a few others didn't get on with Magic Earth.
Since our last trip I've been using Mapy.cz it is really for cycling but I've found it very good for road navigation with very clear mapping. Can't put dimensions in but I've never found satnav with that option much use.

Another vote for Magic Earth. I've been using it for years and cannot fault it. It now supports truck dimensions as well as live traffic etc. Works seamlessly with Android Auto. The only caution I would give is that not all routes presented are suitable for motorhomes as they rely on OpenStreetMaps so don't follow blindly. :)

Have gone back to using magic earth today, the guidance is not as clear as tomtom, but I prefer magic earth, gives you far more info about what is around you, tomtom seems simplistic, I like to know what towns etc I am passing, also has weight limits etc, tomtom sent me through a few French villages yesterday with 3.5t weight limits 😙

I used Magic Earth for 8 months and as a free app was ok. However it did take me down 1 or 2 unsuitable roads so ran it on phone alongside Tom Tom app on Alpine unit and the Tom Tom did better in keeping me on suitable roads.

Another issue I had was using wireless Androud Auto using a plug in device. Tom Tom app starts instantly when ignition on, Magic Earth can take several minutes and would sometimes fail to connect as well as freeze up which was the main reason for trying other apps.

That's interesting, I use wireless via Otto cast and find tomtom and magic earth work well, I found sygic and copilot awful.
