No they borrowed billions and shut the economy down. But not just this government previous governments also such as Gordon brown selling off the gold fast becoming a 3rd world country th UK and am afraid

Having bought and sold more vehicles than the average bear I took a look at your advert on here for your camper.

I think it might be a bit long and winded , information overload at some points and looks like you're trying too hard.

I would cut that description down to about a 3rd , no need to tell a story as the important details get lost and the average buyer gets bored.

Just list the important bits , a lot of the description is unnecessary as you have the photos which show the interior ,layout , condition etc. It's an old van people don't expect it to be new and faultless , if you go In to too much detail it can have the opposite effect than desired.


I'd also drop the price to something like £8995 and put it back on an ebay classified add , it will sell in a fortnight.

P.s I'd also list it on gumtree and Facebook marketplace .

I was trying to give as much detail as possible because our forum, like ebay etc covers not just the UK but also Europe.
My interpretation of its condition may not exactly meet someones who has differing expectations.
That said, someone who may be interested who, say, travelled 150 plus miles for example to view, would not be getting any undue or disappointing surprises.
When we bought it, it was local to us, and easy to get to view.
And it met our requirements, unlike some we saw having travelled considerable distances only to find they were not as described as the adverts were misleading, and the sellers less than forthcoming with even basic details.
So, I have tried to be as accurate and detailed as possible in the advert.
Hopefully, those who may come to view will be serious contenders, having studied the detail in advance.

A dealer won't give you the market price as a trade in though. He checks what you paid for it and will offer you lower.

I've not found that to be the case. I got PX deals from two dealers at the Birmingham show in 2022, neither asked what I paid for it. In the end I sold it privately even though the PX with the company we got our new one from was very good. Saved a lot of hassle all round.

Today, a lot more. My guess is that it is north of £40k.

That is good but bear in mind inflation…that pound 8.5 years ago was worth more. To illustrate it might help to compare a new one with one c. 8.5 years old in todays money. Forgive the following bag of a fag packet maths.
On autotrader right now you could buy a brand new Autosleeper Broadway for £78k (this being discounted). There is a similar spec 2015 model available for £50k. Using BoE calculator £78k in todays money was worth £59250 in 2015. So accounting for general inflation it would suggest a £9k increase over these years, c. 18% overall or c 2%pa increase above CPI. It helps that the new model is discounted by £5k, but then that’s because they can’t sell otherwise.

Happy to be put right if this looks wrong. I’m aware that I don’t know how much they were in 2015 and that would be helpful to know whether new and used have been rising at similar rates. I can see that they were about £60k new in 2019, £72 in today’s money, so not surprisingly new prices have risen about 10% above general inflation in 5 years.

Bit irrelevant really. Try getting a car you have had for 8.5yrs and getting what you paid for it!

The point I was trying to make earlier in the thread is that used prices have inflated on a similar trajectory to new prices, meaning that vans may well end up at a similar price a few years old to what they were new, ignoring the fact that your pound today is worth less. Some even more in £ terms if you ignore inflation. However this will likely be significantly below what the same van is retailing for new, so only really significant if you are entering or leaving the market.

We bought a Honda H-RV nearly 8 years ago and I reckon we could get the same money now. Of course we bought second-hand for £2,000 !

Indeed, it’s not what you paid for it that matters, it’s how much it would cost to replace it.
