Motorhome Garage Storage

Love the idea, and the comments - but don't forget many of us are FT or long term, and take more 'stuff' with us than you would need for a holiday, and dont have a house and garage to keep all the toot in, we take it with us, and reduce it occasionally !

I have just bought 2 electric bikes and won't have them on a rack outside, so have to find space in the garage, it's doeable but takes some creative storage, and I like the op's set up!

Detatchable ones are even better.
I'll tell you what you are doing wrong, you are carrying way too little. Where do you put your motorcycle and your electric bikes, this year I'm carrying a large 5 man inflatable dinghy and a small 3hp outboard motor as well. Then there are the tool boxes, step ladders, guest chairs, recliners, BBQ, outside table, 6 sided pop-up screen house, wind break, Morrocan Mat, pumps, generator, crikey the list is endless.

Couldn't possibly have a smaller van!:Eeek:
Did you forget the washing machine?:D

Hey Paul,

It was good to meet you too and at the same time discuss ideas for garage storage as well as learn of your many foreign adventures.

Thanks for link I'll check it out when I have a better wifi connection.

Hope you and Lin enjoy your new MH it sounds fabulous and your forthcoming trip to Germany.

Thanks again

John

Sorry Lenny I did and the compressor and the Cadac, windbreak, awning screens, oars, crates of beer, 10 litres of ad-blue, wash bucket, brush, chamois, socket set; perhaps I'd better upgrade again....

Six tonnes! ! You carry on mate, a ton here or there's not going to make an 'appeth to the mpg. That's not a MoHo it's a truck.

A truck, possibly but it is a very comfy truck.

Would it not have been better to put the shelves in upside down to stop stuff falling off??

I said similar earlier:
If you'd installed the units 'upside down' would you have had some edges on the shelves to help keep stuff in place?

Great minds think alike!(y)

That's not a garage, it's a man cave (y)

There were a few observations about putting the shelves in upside down to stop items falling off? I've attached a picture of the underside of one of them and as you can see I don't think it would make any sense to do this unless I'm missing something!! but thank you anyway for your suggestions. The shelving on our travels has worked perfectly so far and the luggage netting does a great job in securing the items on the shelves with no hindrance at all.

Fitting folding pedals to the bikes helps getting them in and out of the garage
I sent away to Wiggle for the detachable pedals for ours. It certainly helps when you're moving the bikes in or out, they don't catch on other stuff so much and are easy to pop on/off. As far as the shelves go, I think they would probably end up taking up space due to the configuration of our garage...doors each side and one at the rear (Chausson Flash 610). The door on the nearside has folding shelves above anyway. One consideration is to be careful how much goes in...bikes, spare wheel, ramps, foldaways etc etc.

Fitted fold up pedals to our bikes today and they will certainly help simplify garage stowage. We also put the motor scooter onto the rear carrier today...what a challenge that was !!!! Taking the MH out for a test drive fully laden tomorrow morning before the roads get too busy...just need to put a few more psi into the rear air assist before setting off.

Far too neat and tidy and definitely not enough "stuff" in your garage!

Nice shelves though!

Hi,

We thought we'd share our cost effective solution for garage storage. After considering a number of options we purchased 2 x plastic shelving from scewfix @ cost of £18.00 each. It then took about 2.5 hours to adapt them and fit both in the garage over the rear shelf.

Hope this helps with any plans you might be thinking about for you garage.
Now done mine thanks, 1 in MH garage and 1 in shed at home :)

Next...weighbridge? :cautious:

I know it’s an old post adamsale but I’m about to fit my garage out...might use the shelves you mention.

Two questions....apart from the wooden bed base on top do you ever screw into the van floor, sides, rear etc. In other words what can one screw into.....don’t wan5 lots of holes appearing in on the outside of the MH ? ?

Also I noted some said that the garage has 150KG load capacity....I don’t know what mine is....it’s a Hymer B674....how does 150KG work....I want to put a moped in there which is 125KG and one bike is 25KG so that leaves nothing for anything else that Popeye mentions including the washing machine.

There should be a label in the garage with the load.
Hymer garages can vary a lot at a guess yours is probably 250kg, mine is 350kg and I could have had an option of 450kg.
Often rear axle loading is more of a concern than garage load.
No point having a high garage load if the rear axle can't take the load

Crikey I’d better go and have a look....I have an integrated pull out scooter rack as well so I suppose I could put a scooter on that and leave the garage free for ebikes and other stuff....my rear axle is 2200kg...got a feeling I might have to have air suspension upgrade...I think that can up it by about 250 kg can’t it ? I’d rather not as it will all be more money and time and I want to get going.

See my comments in the other thread you are running on this issue, which got me confused for a minute.

The problem with the scooter rack is that will impose even more loads on your rear axle because the weight will be even further behind the rear axle. The load imposed on the rear axle by your scooter could easily go up to 175kg for the reason I gave in the other thread. And again your ebikes will almost certainly take it over the rear axle limit. Just because a weight is not in the garage does not mean that it can be ignored when calculating axle loads.

I am not sure how you can uprate your rear axle much further. If you are not on the maxi chassis then I think you are about on your limit. I suggest you get advice from the consultants often mentioned in this forum (forgot their names). And if you can upgrade it will probably be very expensive.

Hi sorry yes I understand the axle weight issue...wasn’t assuming by putting scooter on rear I would overcome this issue...it’s just saw someone mention the garage weight of 150kg as though this was to do with the strength of the garage floor or something....don’t know if I have the “maxi” but....certainly have the double floor and Alko...how do I tell if it’s maxi or not and does that matter...is it not just about the 3900gvw, 2200kg rear axle....what difference does the “maxi” bit make.

I have already tried to answer most of those questions in your other thread. The Maxi is a stronger chassis and can take higher maximum loads. Look in the brochure I have attached in the other thread.

Thanks peterc10, sorry about the multiple threads....I think I’ve I’ve got it now...reckon I could take a Masters in Al-Ko chassis and overhangs now....thanks again and to Lenny HB. Gonna go with a moped...leave the the ebike behind....pity...perhaps I should have gone with the 6000Kg N&B ?....too late now.
