Motorhome Gangs France/Spain

Just use an ATM in Spain, last time I used one it only delt out €50 notes, pain in the arse trying to change them. :D
You must go to the wrong places. Never had anyone bat an eyelid at a 50. Even seen 500€'s changed for a coffee in a bar I use, whilst I was waiting to pay with one for fags & tobacco.:D2. Most petrol stations won't take them. i've even been paid in 100's at a car boot.

I didn't even know they existed.

They are stopping producing them this year :cry:

There is nothing remotely like this on Facebook can't even find it on Hymer or The N332 pages very strange

Though it is common knowledge (Hearsay) that Romanian gangs do target Tourists especially those who are lax with their security
Did get this on my page, assumed it was 'targeted fake news' as i am a member of a couple of FB motorhome forums.

When I wrote that I had not seen anything saw it later on another motorhome group but again this is "commonly reported " but no one ever says this happened to me

We were gassed in our motorhome at a service station near montpellier.
We received a lot of sarcastic (supposedly funny) remarks on here.
However it is a fact that people do get gassed and robbed.
See below a link with the story of Richard hammand of top gear being gassed.
Ps: before the comments come.....no I don't drink and I didn't have any roles watches stolen

What's a 50euro note, never seen one of themo_O
Just as well, you don’t want one cos nobody wants to take them off you, many local shops here in uk have notices displayed saying we do not accept £50 notes and in parts of Spain and Portugal they won’t take the €50 notes either.

I suggest you have a read of from the experts.

How do you know you were gassed? The only sure way is a toxicology report. I don't doubt you were robbed, but the only expertise they needed was to do it quietly enough not to wake you. Same applies to Hammond, no mention of a toxicology report on that incident either.

With respect, I think its a fact that although people certainly may have been robbed its also a fact that they only "think" they were gassed.

There is a wealth of information from eminent anaesthetists which totally contradicts the gassing theory.

Weve never had problem changing them, as Lenny says most ATM dispense them, but always use first, so have smaller notes available.

I've never been anywhere in spain that has ever batted an eyelid at a 50€ note. When travelling they are usually the note I choose to carry. I always prefer to pay in cash rather than cards if I can,That's why I hate France as it is so difficult. I now carry any extra fuel I might need rather than use a card.

Break out the Popcorn!:D.
I read an article some years ago by a Consultant anaesthetist, Who said basically that unless the aesthetic gas was directly induced and strictly controlled, it was more likely that the victims would be either not rendered unconscious OR they would die.

If you take your mind back to a Russian Cinema/Theatre Terror incident some years ago Many of those who died where as result of the GAS induced by the Russian security forces in an attempt to subdue the perpetrators.

The anecdotal evidence suggests that the robbers are using some kind of gas. The effective use of anaesthetic gas is obviously impossible.

There is probably a plausible explanation why some criminals believe (perhaps mistakenly) that the use of gas facilitates these robberies. Pending an evidence-based report, I wouldn't dismiss them too hastily as mere fabrication by victims.

Back on topic, if the former road bandits who prey on tourists are entering campsites in motorhomes as a cloak for their crime sprees that is something we need to be aware of so we can keep a lookout for suspicious behaviour.

I wonder what the incidence of thefts like this are compared to the number of motorhomes on the continent and compared to the risk of RTA's food poisoning etc etc. Sensible to take precautions but not to get too wound up.
