l have never filled out a Census all my adult life they know where l am when they want the Tax every year.
A couple of things muddled here I suspect! t is a civil offence for a householder not to return the annual polling registration form, or a census form if required to do so. Regulation 32ZF(2) Representation of the People Regulations (England and Wales) 2001. You may be chased for the former but the absence of a census return is likely to followed up with a visit. We mainly have partial censuses these days. The polling registration is held by the local authority, and while you legally have to register, you can tick the box saying to exclude you from the public record. Note that you remain on the central register and under current regulations that will be available for public viewing in 101 years time.

Individual census information is also held under wraps for normally 100 years.

Nothing here we don’t know already.

Living in the country all my life perhaps I have led a secluded one.
But I am quite willing for anyone to know where I live , my phone number and my car number, email address , never even give it a thought why I shouldn't, it's all quite easy to find out if anyone is desperate enough.
What reason could you have for not doing unless you are up to something you shouldn't be.

But if you post a pic of your van in Portugal then anybody who is "interested" knows that you are away from your remote country residence and they might want to pay your property a little visit in the night, OK you might tell me that there are other people and big dogs at home etc etc but I guess you get my drift.

Should add that I am not suggesting MHF is a big threat but the likes og Facebook you don't know who is looking in.

Simple answer, I am on no social media apart from this.
But as you say there are at least 6 people at home when I am not there but nothing worth nicking anyway. ;)

I agree there are many undesirables that you would not want in your physical life. Why would you invite them in virtually

Today many employers check a candidates 'socials' Before they consider interview invitations

Even privacy choices can be breached

I remember the saying no-one knows what goes on behind closed doors.

And some doors should imo remain closed

Thing is though we used to have a phone and be in the phone book so people could find us, now with all this modern tech folks are doing all they can to stop people finding them.
Beats me.

There are sadly many, many reasons why people don't want to be found other than the 'you must be up to something' line.

People who have been or under police protection, those wanting to escape abuse of any kind, those who would become easy targets for 'family' members where there has been a rift, or even they just want a quiet life. We should respect everyone's right to privacy.

Lots of Funsters have met and know us, but there an awful lot more that we do not know. If anyone wants to give everything away on here, or social media generally, or even pay to have their personal details flashed up on Piccadilly Circus, that's entirely their choice. I choose not to do that, and we should all respect others personal decisions.. I might advise someone not to put information out there if I feel they may be putting themselves at risk, but it's their right to ignore me.

However, if I feature in a photo, video, document etc, and am sharing it for whatever reason. it always goes with the caveat that the person I am sharing with is not to put it on social media.

This is a very insightful post and consent should always be obtained
Posting images could put others at risk
which is never acceptable

That's weird when they say they have a van and are really happy with it, maybe they are looking for a friend? Anyway, apologies and good luck with your sale 👍

I 'get' Jaws response to publishing his Mob. I also agree that we have become more and more
averse to giving out any and every piece of information even though it is available via ordinary
sources, ie Phone numbers and vehicle registrations.

However, I give the following as a caution, which is diametrically opposite to my usual thinking.
I have posted it before but it stands repeating.

The Emmits, (ie. us) run rallies for MHF.
Once upon a time, I posted our bank account details on here in order for the Funsters to send us the pitch fees.

I won't go into all the details but on more than one occasion, that account was the subject of a removal
of monies as a result of a criminal forging a cheque to to show our account details. As a result, we contacted our bank
and matters were resolved.

I will stress that the criminal action did not access our account except to remove the monies by the creation of the cheque.
Every person that had received a cheque as part of our day to day financial dealings at the time could have done the same
but it was our publication, on an open forum, that allowed that criminal action.

We have mitigated the opportunity for such action being repeated, however, it is not possible to conduct financial
transfers at this level without there being some trust between the parties. That is why we do not publish the
Bank transfer details on an open forum. That Bank account, used on that occasion, does not exist any more.

Edit. I would add that the demise of cheques will make it less likely that the above action will be repeated.
Obviously bank details are a completely different thing, but even them are compromised every time you purchase anything with a card.

If someone clones your plate it can bring a lot of hassle..

parking fines, speeding tickets, just a few of the things that can happen

and more

Often, a vehicle registration plate is cloned so that criminals can commit illegal motoring acts. This may include driving into London without paying the congestion zone charge or Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) fees, running through red lights, speeding, or parking unlawfully.

My last car had the plates cloned.
I received 17 motoring offence tickets in 14 days.
They included parking fines, ULEZ fines, speeding fines, running red lights etc.
It was a right pain to sort out.

I feel your pain..

It can of course be cloned while parked .. or even when you're driving, but putting a pic on the web makes it so much easier to find simply by Googling

They are looking for a van with an island bed rather than a tranverse
Sadly the one I have for sale is pretty much the same layout as they already hgave
