Hi there,
We have a 2010, 6 berth motorhome we have set up as a rental here in New Zealand. I am wondering how we could advertise this to people in the UK? Put a classified on this motorhome fun site? Anywhere else? We would love some local knowledge on this one. We are wanting to reach UK and European motorhome renters, keen to experience beautiful New Zealand :)
Thanks!
Tabitha & Mike

You could maybe check out groups an farcebook.

On our bucket list to do NZ lots of our family NI/NZ

The boss's dad goes for a couple of mths periodically and hires so will pass on .

We are off to New Zealand for a 3 month tour of North and South Islands in January, but unfortunately the cost of hiring a motorhome over there was so ludicrously high that we have hired a car and are staying at motels for a fraction of the cost.

You are right camper prices do seem a bit high but we like our own space and freedom which is why we have a motorhome at home so we might just have to bite the bullet as we fancy NZ as well.

The other thing Martin is there is a lot of scenery there and not so many Costa's so if you have your own facilities you can enjoy it to the full, yes Airbnb is probably cheaper but you would expect to pay less for only half the experience.

We have a lot of places to visit and a lot of things to do in our three months there, and for some, it is nice to ramble along at a slower pace, but we started to realise that campsite are not on the doorstep of places that we want to visit, and we would have to cut out a lot of our timetable with travel time taken up with a MH rather than using a car and staying local to the places we will be visiting.
There are plenty of cafés and eating houses dotted everywhere in New Zealand, way more than we expected and as for Costa, I will not ever be stepping in one of them again, once was enough.

As for your "you would expect to pay less for only half the experience", it really depends on what the individual wants to experience.
We are only going to be doing this once, so want to cram in all we can.

Here's the MY Maps map of the places that we are visiting while there, so have a look at half our experience. ;) :giggle:

Most of the accommodation we will be booking as we are on the way to it, a day or two before the next place to visit

Lots of freedom camping places in NZ, wonderful experiences.

Not in all the right place, do you really think that we did not investigate before deciding to go the car and b&b route ?
Plenty of other Funsters have said that car and b&b was a better option for them, horses for courses.
The map I linked to should give you a clue that a MH for our trip is not practical in our time frame. 👍

Wow that looks pretty full on and a lot of research behind the scenes I guess, the trouble with us is that we are not very good at planning so will need to get our fingers out to make the best of it. Thanks for the information 👍

Yes I don’t think there is a right or wrong way as we are all different, it is quite possible even probable that we will miss things that you will see and do.

Couldn’t agree more.
The places we stayed and overnighted was just amazing.

Certainly wouldn’t have been touched by hotels etc.
I’d say Moho or nothing for me 👍

Have a link to our map with you Martin as you might well find that there is something of interest to just up the road from you at any given place that you stay.
We have had a conversation with a few Kiwi's over here and while having a coffee in Füssen of all places, and they all said to ask a local what to visit in an area, and you will see places and things that most visitors will miss. (y)

We loved M/ homing in NZ, the ability to stop anywhere and visit the sights without the additional sometimes inflated tourist hotel costs was great. We stopped over at a few airfields for free and had great hospitality and a few free flights 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

That's some itinerary 😯...
I'm heading there tomorrow - but only for a 20 day package tour, so I'll barely scrape the surface of what you're planning to see.

We did some of both, roughly a week of Car/hotels at each end of the trip and about 5 weeks of motorhome. I agree with you motorhome the whole way if we re lucky enough to go again.

There are hundreds of freedom camping places and even more member places if you re in NZMCA ( which is the polar opposite of the UK caravan Club)

This gives a feel.

For anyone else reading - it makes a big difference if you re camper/motorhome has a self contained sticker on it.

Each to their own, I hope you have a lovely trip. I'm glad you ve left yourself some flexibility because NZ is surprisingly big without many motorways so it took longer to cover distances than we realised. We expected to be able to explore both islands pretty thoroughly in the 6-7 weeks we were there and didnt come close, although some of that was caused by Storm washing away parts of the Coramandel coast ( which I see has just sustained further damage :( ) and hung over Earthquake damage on the road to Kaikoura.

Enjoy your trip and a safe journey Stephen.

Friends of ours did a New Zealand package tour just over a year ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, so I'm sure that you will come back with lasting memories of your visit.

We'd always planned that our first treat after retirement would be a trip to New Zealand so after much planning we set off in September 2012 ,despite having a caravan at the time (changed for a MH when we got back 🙂) we went for a MH as we are more into scenery
and the quieter attractions away from the tourist centres. 11,000 Km later we had seen some fantastic sights and been on some fantastic trips.
Things not to miss, you can spend a day at the Te Papa museum in Wellington, whale watching trip from Kaikora,Fjordland at the bottom of South Island,if you have time do the day trip to
Doubtful Sound as well as Milford Sound,we were able to find private boat owners for both rather than the larger operators.

NZ threads always an excuse to get the photos out and there are quite a few 🙂

Two places I would highly recommend is a trip on doubtful sound, two night cruise, way better than than Milford sound, and Stewart island is definitely worth a trip, and if you are into motor museums then the one in Invercargill takes some beating ,

Absolutely join NZMCA.
We did before we went over, couldn’t believe how good and easy it was using their “sites”

Definitely self contained as this gives you the ultimate freedom of where to stop for a night or two.

We’ve woken up on a shore line to the sun rising with no one around us.
What memories 👍😊

And you can see the worlds fastest Indian (theres at least 4 of it on display :ROFLMAO: )

It was somewhere by Invercargill, we stopped at a feeedom spot next to a beach with a very active Sea Lion colony, absolutely fascinating to watch.
