Motorhom insurance declined

We are with LV multi vehicle. They insured both the previous MH and our new campervan. They did not need the conversion details just the base vehicle details - Fiat in our case and the value of the vehicle.

I’m currently insured via Motorhome Protect who advertise on here. Had no issues so if price at renewal remains competitive I’ll stay with them. However as said previously, you only really know how good a company is when you need to make a claim.
Mine is off street parking in a designated parking bay adjacent to a property and I found a lot of insurers wouldn't quote because of this.
We were insured with them, even when I checked our windscreen (A Class) was fully covered they said yes but when it broke they would only pay £1000 towards the £3200 cost as they stated it was fully covered up to their maximum but failed to tell me how high theirs was so £2200 out of pocket

This year I searched on compare the market. It came in at £190 compared to £280 from my previous broker one of the well known ones on here. I think the problem with any insurance is you don't know how good it is until you claim and most brokers use several different underwriters so you are just dealing with a middle man.
That is what I like about Comfort (I think that one of the others does this as well) - they are basically Aviva's motorhome insurance arm as the only broker for them. A claim goes directly to the underwriters (Aviva) who deal with you. I had a very good claim experience with them so quite happy. Their breakdown service is competitive and has worked for me a couple of times. Not the cheapest though

AIB work for me (y)
Jim I was with AIB £450 after the break in and two vehicles stollen (not the MoHo thanks to vanbitz) it went to £3k so I’m now with Adrian flux

That's not true now. It might have been once. My policy was bought via AIB but it's an AVIVA policy.

Fair enough but with a claim do you deal direct or through the broker?

It's generally direct with the underwriter. I'm with Comfort and had a claim last year. The claims line goes direct to Aviva, but they have a team which only deals with Comfort customers. I suspect the other big MH brokers may have similar arrangements.
Incidentally, Aviva were very good to deal with.

I agree. Adrian Flux was an absolute nightmare as at that time all communication had to be through them

We are with LV. Don't know how good they are till you need to claim.
Just tried to add a motorhome to my LV car insurance policy, told LV do not cover Motorhomes stored in secure parking, but happy with stored on my drive. Seems wrong to me

Used Saga , Comfort and currently with LV all ok but LV doesn't cover plastic windows, be warned.
Yes you are correct, I am currently checking the small print before going with LV, and they don't (see below) but at £1k different in premiums then I can live with that.

Just had my renewal with Caravan Guard declined due to the post code of the storage compound we have used for years. 🙄Can anyone recommend other companies. They suggested Adrian Flux but looked online at reviews and they went good!
Caravan Guard were also a disappointment to me after I'd been with them for years and they declined to insure me for a proposed new usage pattern with my new van. (More travel abroad, higher mileage, more time spent parked up at a single secure address on the continent.)

AIB have been very accommodating so far.

I've used Comfort for many years and there renewal prices have always been very fair.
Last year we had an accident in Valencia where a Spaniard decided to fall asleep and rammed us. My claim involved the motorhome car and trailer. Comfort were brilliant and really handled everything in a very sympathetic and professionally manner.
I would always use them as they've proved there worth.

Having lost a couple of vehicles due to a break in they were not interested in insuring us whether in storage or on the drive

We were with AIB for cars and motorhome but only moved to them after positive posts on here

In 2017 we needed to be add extra miles due to a spontaneous trip to Norway mid year, could only add 2K miles which wasn’t enough, only solution put by AIB was start a new policy before year end , 🤔 we did but with Comfort who allow such changes if needed. They have been very good and excellent dealing with a claim and virtually no increase in premium post accident

Then we changed our car last year, AIB will not offer cover for electric cars , or possibly specifically Tesla. But they did a very fair pro rata refund of part year as I had already bought the car 🙄

Make sure you declare you have had policy declined. Failure could void your insurance. There is usually a question ”Have you ever had an insurance declined” etc

Isn't it 'refused'?

They declined to quote, I don't think there is any need to declare that. Lots of firms will decline to quote for lots of different reasons.

But then maybe I haven't been paying attention when I'm applying

I think you're probably right. If they don't quote there's no policy to decline
