Motor bike vs scooter

Weight will probably dictate which bike / scooter you get
I opted for a Honda sh125 (135kg) 90mpg +
The Honda mode 125 is (120kg) but a smaller rear wheel
The Sh300 (170kg) 70mpg + , is a awesome scoot , if you can carry the extra weight it’s well worth it , apart from the power they are almost the same size and ride similar, the big wheels on the Sh range make them ride more like a bike , when raining scooters keep the rain of your feet & lower body

@MF , You need to be doing at least 100mph so the wind lifts the weight off your arms ,
any less & it is hard work ,
that don’t happen on the Sh lol

That looks like a smashing little set up! Nice and light too! What sort of money are those 125 hondas? Xx

Sh125i is 135kg About £3,000 new
Sh125 mode is 120kg (not 90kg) About £2,300 new

I paid £1,900 for mine (sh125i) , 1 year old with only 900 miles on it

I’ve just been looking at these 2 and find it strange that Honda make 2 different bikes with dimensions so close to each other.

Its usually because they are a world wide seller and different countries have different rules.

When I bought our Honda 125 Mode scooter the SH version almost an identical machine but had the ABS, Cat etc.

I thought at the time it was discounted in the UK because another country changed its rules so making the Mode unsellable there.

So they bought them to the UK.

Not so sure now.

I did actually get the weight wrong, apologies, they do come in at 116kg which is still pretty good and the overall size is seriously manageable if you intend to place in a MH Garage, it certainly doesn’t run out of power on climbs and rightly or wrongly I’ve hit 70+ two up,however,I always get the “talking to” when she alights, boys will be boys :D2.
I don’t think they actually manufacture the Mode anymore but you might find the odd one still in stock somewhere or pre-registered as I did at a cost of £2595.

If you’ve not checked here’s the spec straight from Honda.

The mode has 16” front wheel / 14”rear wheel with drum brake
The Sh 125i has 16” front and rear wheels with disc brakes & abs
Also comes with rear top box as standard
The 125 mode is just a cheaper model BOTH GREAT
Both uk models

Scooters are practical, light, easy to ride, inexpensive to buy & run, fit for the job etc etc etc.....

I'd still rather pull my toenails out with rusty pliers than buy one though. A bike every time for me!

Maybe I'll change my mind when I'm old(er) and (even more) decrepit.

KTM Duke690 looks like fun. Totally impractical of course, but isn't that the point?

Brilliant machine l had one for a couple of years and very quick for what it is, I have a GAS GAS 250 Pampera that I had since new , got about 200Km on clock and about 8/9 years old , sadly , no body to ride with anymore all my mates are pushing up dasies.:(

We are debating scooters for the rear of a Motorhome ,I think they are great for what they are going to be used for, good handling & fast enough for me , having owned over 200 bikes , scooters & quads , raced enduro , motocross, trials , quads, beach races and circuit racing all over the country riding 125cc to 1000cc machines ,IMOH my sh125 is a great bike & does exactly what I need it to do , if I could carry more weight I would use a sh300

I’ve seen a few older 125 hondas on eBay,,

What do you look for when buying used?

Apart from the fact that it doesn’t look like it’s been dropped by a helicopter !!!

Do you have a full motorcycle license?
Or are you going to get your cbt (which lasts 2 years )
Or go for your MC full license?

Fantastic pics

Is that a modified RSV I see or are my eyes deceiving me.

You have to do cbt for 125 , probably not what your after but your car license covers you as a full license for a 50cc moped , which would work
If you are not in a hurry & Don’t need to travel to far , a lot less wieght
As well , can take a passenger straight away BUT only about 30mph

Yes scotch, I was told that, but a 125 gives me a bit more power etc,, plus you have to look at the street cred !! Lol
