Been for the MOT today. Couple of advisories but it passed. Also the weight was checked of the vehicle is this a new thing at the MOT as never had it done before. Anyone else had a MOT recently

I did last year the MOT guy said it weighed 3400Kg and it was empty, I mean empty nowt in it. Went straight to the weighbridge 1/4 mile away. Drove on, the recorded weight 3100kg. Not sure if it was the MOT rollers or poor maths.

Yeah mine weighed more than I expected think a trip to a weight bridge is in order

Reason I ask because it's the same MOT centre and the same motor with the same stuff in it but last year no recorded weight

Was recorded as a advisory as was close to 3500 kg
Not seen that before, as I mentioned earlier the weight affects braking efficiency numbers and I only know this from a discussion with a mot tester about our then smart car.

No never had it before and had the motorhome 15 years

That could be a bit worrying if you get an advisory for an incorrect weight.

I had our Inca weighed before our first European tour back in 2017, total weight fully loaded was 3.160kg, have an MOT booked for next week It'll be interesting... (it they do weigh it).

I thought weight was only recorded on goods vehicles.
Not on cars and vehicles under 3500kg mam.

May things have changed as it's never been recorded before and I know I've had the same weight on board

weight is used for the brake efficiency, rollers are usually fairly accurate within about 40kg but you will never get an accurate figure when the axle sits lower in the rollers, brake test read out gives a figure for presented weight. i would usually tell presenter what weight is but wouldnt put it as advisory

My van was MOT'd back in Sept 24. I asked if I could get the weight of the van and was told the weight when I got the certificate. There is nothing recorded other than a Pass and all the vehicle info. So in my case it was down to poor maths ;)or the rollers need calibrating. We'll see in Sept.;)

So is it up to the individual tester to decide wether it gets put down as a advisory or not ?. Surely they should be a common set of rules

How close between the MOT advisory weight and you van plated weight?

Advisories are often the testers opinion of the condition, I have had a local tester tell me he put an advisory on to make me aware that it will need sorting in the future, which is fair enough in most cases.

Yeah I get that my point is there should be a common set of rules followed by all testers. Don't get me wrong it's not a bad thing and I will now go though every I carry which every one should do at some point anyway

That's crazy. Weight is a variable so unless you present the van in an overweight condition it shouldn't be recorded as an advisory maybe verbal as in my case.

If it's not part of the test why is it advisory then?. Might as well say found a packet of cheese and onion crisps on the dash recommend salt n vinegar lol.

Was it MOT'd as a class 4 or class7
My mot place that I have used for all the mots last year had it a a class 7. It was an extra £10. For the class. They knocked it of the last Bill from my car mot.

Ours gets MOT'd at Boston HGV Testing Station. Just like the smoke test results, the brake test results were on a separate printout, with no mention of either on the MOT itself.

An advisory re "slight play in steering control joints", was the same advisory as the last two MOTs, but they have since been replaced now. 👍

Looks like it's time to upgrade anyone selling a tag axle please
As much as I loved our Tandem axled Hymer, if using the French Peage at all it was classed as Cat 4, ie, the same toll charge as a 44 x Tonne Artic.
Maybe you wouldn't want one, if France is a regular holiday destinationfor you. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Tester trying to be helpful to let presenter know weight of vehicle, he might not get to meet presenter
