MOT extensions still on?

Booked ours in yesterday at Yoemans fiat for 16 July could have done it earlier, no restrictions to do with Covid.
They won’t do a hire car though which they usually do.

It makes good sense. The virus is said to be able to last up to three days on some surfaces. After three days it should be safe for them to work on the vehicle and after another three days it should be safe for you to collect. (y)
Or they could use mask, gloves & sprays the same as we have to do here on a daily basisis.
That is one thing that has never stopped here. vehicle repairs. You just drop it off & leave keys ,they sanitise keys & anything else they fancy & work on it in mask gloves & using sanitiser , & all behind closed doors. same process in reverse when collecting
MOT extensions for cars to end on 22 July! “

Here they gave us all 6 months extensions but only until the testing stations reopened. At that point all tests forward became due on the due date.

Booked mine for tomorrow to have a new zorst manifold fitted. The guy said to drop it off at 8.30 and he'd phone me when it's ready for collection. Fingers crossed as I'm going away in it Sunday 5th.

Our van is due to be MOTed on te 17th July. As I am shielding (until the 31st at least) there is no way to get it done until after the MOT is due.

I just hope the extension is in place for a little longer - last year we had hab check, service and MOT done at the supplying dealers and would like to do the same again - the only issue being the dealer is in Derby and we are in Scotland.

Ours is also due on the 17th July. No sign of an extension yet.

I usually use my local Council MOT Test Center for two reasons:
The first as they aren't able to perform fixes so they is definitely no ulterior motive in failing. (Before anyone thinks I'm being unfair here - I've been sat in a H*lfords waiting area hidden away when one of the testers came in and said "Good news - this one needs 1 tyre, a front coil spring and I think we can blag rear brakes..." and handed the sheet over to the guy to build the quote for the customer. When he spotted me he made a hasty retreat.)
The 2nd reason is at 8.5m and over 3.3m in height its the only place locally I've found that can accommodate the motorhome as they do all the testing for the council wagons too.

Sadly this test center is still closed :( I'd rather get it tested before a trip (fingers crossed) late summer but if needs be I'll take the extension and MOT it when back.

I did post that, but subsequently had to eat humble pie, because I may have misunderstood the Sky post I'd seen. Or it may have been as Solwaybuggier has posted above, that Sky made the error. And I was unable to find any other evidence - so apologies, if I was guilty of posting 'fake news'.
I’m telling on you to Trump :giggle: :giggle:

Have it tested anyway................ safer (y)

yes, if you do have an accident and you have failed to keep your vehicle in a safe condition!. Your insurance ..... you know the rest.

separate issue, one of my cars I have hardly used this year. Less than 2,000 miles. It’s been stored in my garage on private land. Insurers slapped an extra £220 on my policy this year. Goodbye LV

The same is happening here. Certainly the garage I use sanitises. Waiting out the virus is in theory just another way.

My cars MOT is due 7th July. No sign of any extension yet but I'm told it will happen about five days before. Fingers crossed.

Sometime ago I too witnessed something along the lines of what you heard in another large chain. I had a quiet word with the customer and he was most upset but crafty ;). He accepted their written repair quote, took it up with the authorities, the van was tested elsewhere and nothing was found to be wrong. To cut a long story short the tester got into a lot of trouble and the testing station even more so. Heads rolled and the customer got a deal of compensation (good will!).

My MOT was extended to December but I had the service and MOT done yesterday.

I didn't want to risk inevitable panic MOT bookings if or when the extension concession is withdrawn.

We did the same thing and got on with it. Our motorhome was due for a full service and MOT last week. Talking to the service department they expected to be very busy in the Autumn/Winter with catchup MOT‘s and servicing.

It's more than 5 miles to the council depot (and being shielded I am restricted to 5 miles from home for none emergency travel) - actually more than 5 miles to most places. When allowed out I can ask the council
if they will test the van or we will go to Derby and stay in the quiet little CL we usually use (we'll either book and pay in advance or leave the money in the letterbox when we get there).

I am very nervous / cautious at the moment - not only because of personal health stuff but also because I don't think this virus has completed it's cycle yet.

I had a 6 month old company car (with private plate so the plate was much older than the car if that makes sense). It had to go to one of the chains for something minor (blown light bulb or something) and they told me the car would fail the MOT for x,y, and z, (they made it sound like a death trap) and I should not take it off the premises. I left the car saying I needed to sort finance for the repairs and they were not to touch it. I then phoned the transport manager who came out and all hell was let loose. My company withdrew their custom from the chain (a LOT of money) - that branch closed down shortly afterwards (I felt sorry for the honest employees) but the chain is still in business.

Once I can get out and about again the van will be serviced and tested sooner rather than later as in 6 months appointments at test centres could be lie hen's teeth.

Broken Link Removed

In summary if your MOT is due to expire from 1st Aug onwards the 6-month extension will not apply.

Phew! Mine expires 31st July, so I should save a 2,000 mile round trip.

With all the extensions will garages be able to pick up the extra mots when it ends had van mot 2 weeks ago garage owner said he is down about 200 mots a month, if every garage is doing the same You will have to book up 3 months in advance.

A garage i use posted on facebook this morning that the mot extension is ending on the 1st August..

Update. Our car MOT was due 07 July 20. It has now been extended to 07 Jan 21. It seems they are doing the extensions until 31 July 20 and posting the updates 7-5 days prior to the due date.

I did not want my mot running out in the winter when I am likely to be in Spain so the six month extension would be a pain in the future

The government is to end its <Broken link removed> on August 1, the Department for Transport (DfT) has confirmed. Any vehicle with an MoT due before that date will still get its six-month reprieve, but vehicles due after that date will have to be tested as normal.

Me too wanderer . However, you can get an MOT done at any time. I will let mine run until November and have it done a month or so before we depart for the Algarve. I "adjusted" the date of the MH MOT to better suit a year or two ago.
