Two wheel job towed.

Since 2004
MOT , no advisories, full service incl all filters, clutch fluid change, brake fluid change £647.
No doubt could have got it cheaper but Simpsons at Great Yarmouth are a reputable dealer and one that if any query immediately correct without question.

All that would probably have cost me less than £100 including the test (y)
The joys of having plenty family mechanics.

If it's a price thats acceptable and gives you peace of mind it's money well spent.

Better still if it's a small bill;)
The brake and clutch fluid changes inflate the price, are they really necessary I don’t know also all filter changes, peace of mind I guess.
Years ago when cars were normal I could fix them, engines clutches etc easy but not now , no room to work anymore and too much tech. Oh and if I crawled under a car I couldn’t get back out again ;)

Same myself, :( not been under one for twenty years but I know plenty folks who can (y)

I still have to do it all myself, plus the "Dad could you look at my car please?" :(
They do offer to help, but I politely decline their offers. I get done a lot quicker and know it is done right.

You need a motorhome serviced?
No problem sir, we'll just double the standard van price!
It’s a problem when I had boats, you can afford the boat you can afford what we charge

I’m sure you could have had the job done cheaper but if you are happy with it that’s all that matters 👌
Happy motoring for another 12 months 🤞

Its amazing how things change over time with car/van servicing, all the Mr Clutch Centres have closed round here, plus remember how we used to call out a "Hometune" type guy, who would come round your house and tune up your engine?
We used to buy service kits for master & Slave Brake & Clutch Cylinders, plus diode stacks and regulators for Alternators.
Nowadays for garages, its plug in the laptop, see any fault codes and replace parts in a laid down sequence until the fault code disappears.
If a fault appears on the dashboard then as I know BMW want £100+ to diagnose it, then they give you the bad news on how much it will cost to repair...if they have the parts in stock.

As long as you are happy that is all that matters. Don’t worry about what others think about the price, as many of them aren’t in the modern world. 6.5 Ltrs of good oil will cost about £70+, three filters all at more than £20 each, and then an MOT that will be £40+, and that’s the basic items.

I have always done oil changes etc on all my vehicles and would like to on my Ducato. Is it easy to change the oil and filter on the Ducato? Someone told me access was difficult?

Well, by your own maths that's £470 in labour....£235 per hour.

I wasn't suggesting he had over payed, that sounds about the going rate these days, just glad I don't have to pay it.

I couldn’t have done the job, no longer fit enough.
Yes I may well have found a little garage somewhere that would have halved the price but for me an established reputable motorhome dealer working on Fiats on a daily basis gives me peace of mind knowing the job is done properly.

Motorhome dealing has little to do with the servicing of engines and running gear, especially if the mechanics get more experience in mending taps and fixing roof leaks than changing head gaskets.

I would prefer to go to workshop that spends all its time servicing commercial vehicles, which is what I do here and you could not describe it as a 'little garage' as his yard is packed with vans.

I did use for 20 years a little garage in a mews off Portobello Road in London for my BMWs. He was Italian and had worked for BMW, so was authorised to sign for work on them. He also got genuine BMW parts at a discount which he passed on. Even when I had a company leased BMW the lease company accepted him for servicing. I was p*ssed off when he retired - without even telling me! So I sold the BMW!

Upshot is that there are good workshops around at reasonable prices - but one needs recommendations to find them, which I got for both of the above examples - those two have seen me sorted for the last 40+ years. :giggle:

I hope that they screwed the fuel filter on a bit better than my local Fiat Professional garage! Dumped gallons of fuel down the A1 and cost me nearly £500 for a complete filter assembly! 🤯
Haven’t checked, will do that in a bit although no fuel smell when I brought it home.

This is not a sales only dealer, Simpsons carry out all their own work on site , I had my cam belt changed there last year, a professional outfit.

Straight forward. Fuel filters can be tricky, but a google search will provide a short video to study. You've probably got ramps on board already. EBay has some good bargains packages of oil+ all filters. Check your model before ordering. A class probably more involved.
Mike.

Easy on ours. It's a 2014 Peugeot Boxer but has the 2.2 Ford puma engine.

Oil filter is one of those screw off can types, easy to get to underneath the engine.

Bought a draper fuel filter tool £15 and that made it easy to do, torqued it up and no leaks. You really are better off doing anything that requires a brain cell yourself 👍

I understand that but their mechanics must spend a lot more time on habitation stuff than mechanical, especially with standards of converters seeming to be dropping in recent years.

I think that warranty work does not always get recompensed fully by the MH manufacturer, so the cost of that gets spread over the rate for other customers. Think on't.

Don't forget £108 of the total bill of £647 is the dreaded VAT......

Yours must be one of the plastic body fuel filters like on the x250 models , to my knowledge the x290 shape vans have changed away from the leaking type of filter.

Vickers fiat of Shrewsbury.....£389 inc vat on our Ducato (Delaware) full service including aircon check . Personally I think its ok?

Engine oil, fuel, and air and Air con Internal (Cab filter).........oh.....Warranty too!

MOT at Cannock...£45 no advisories either!

It’s good when you find a garage you like and trust.
Ive used Spitfire Garage Southampton a few times for servicing and bodywork ( they used to have a stand at Newbury Show).
Just had full service, Cambelt and MOT on my A Class for £776.
