MOT: Air bag warning light

Removed and sent it to crash data for replacement,,, and refitted him self,, looked pretty straight forward

Be very wary of using crashdata... they offer no guarantees.. so as often happens you fork out the £80 to get it reset and a couple of weeks down the line it shows the same fault... crashdata will then demand another fee to redo it again... just bite the bullet and buy a new updated module from somewhere like coastal motorhomes...you will then need it proxy aligning with your ECU which Fiat professional will charge a fee to do if you go to them ... alternatively if you can find a fellow Motorhomer near where you live who has purchased "multiecuscan" Fiat software (like I have, but midlands based) and ask them to proxy align it for you..

I’ve just done mine. It failed the MOT last year for the same thing. I didn’t own it then. If you look on Gov website you can see failures from previous years.

I find it amazing people will spend the kids inheritance on a motorhome, and try to cheat the system to get through an mot to save a few quid, when what the light is potentially saying is that if you have a crash the air bag may not function and you may die.....

The airbag will NOT function,

But i guess it’s personal choice; or needs must!
I drove our van for a few months with an airbag ecu that was new but would not align with the van main ecu.
Even a specialist FIAT service centre failed to get it sorted. I eventually got it to align myself and sorted.

Some people might just like living life on the edge 😉

I might die everyday. But I still go out.

Exactly my thoughts, mine packed up, I didn’t even try and get the old one fixed, it was booked straight into a fiat professional for a new one and proxy realigned, it’s bad enough driving an egg carton A Class without the added problems of airbags not going off.

I will just add this as a possible source for ECU and other parts.

Looks like £309.99 for module for upto 2014? If 2019 is the same, I only paid another £65 fitted, pixies, and 2 Yr warrenty, not worth the hassle?

Fitting is just 3 bolts and 2 clips.. So not much involved.
Software is the key as you need that to proxy align the new part to the vans system.. 5 mins job..
For a garage to do it at £65 you got a good deal. (y)

A clever person could fit a relay in the system so the light went out on starting the engine.

Not that I would advocate such a thing.

I’d just use tape 😉😂
I had to fit a timer relay to a bulb to fool the MOT tester on an old Freelander. The truck had to get to 5 mph for the ABS light to go out but the MOT guy wouldn't accept this and failed it 😡. Passed with the trick light which worked when stationary.

Mine comes on intermittently, but it is definitely the wiring under the seat. I can reproduce it by jiggling the wire which isn't clipped to anything. I don't know if it's a bad connector or wether the wire is starting to break down from the movement when the seats spun round, but i'll have a better look when I get a minute. My home is built on a renault master, and in my opinion looking under the seat first is the cheapest and easiest thing to try before you start messing with ecu's

There you go

The same as they might do with seat belts if the seats are folded down?
In Spain they either plug in and test every belt or you plug them in before attending. I once went forr and itv with only front seats in a 7 seat mpv only to fail and have to return with all seats in position.
Unfortunately theres many here that havent had a "repair" last until the MOT.
Don't connect it until you need it. Then disconnect after.
is that if you have a crash the air bag may not function and you may die..
Or maybe having survived driving and wrecking vehicles without air bags when young we can drive to stay alive easily.

UNFORTUNately the "repair" doesnt even last untill being turned on ie no repair at all. Other people on here have been more "robust" with their descriptions.

One of the problems is the old design of ecu is prone to corruption and this is what crash data do is fix the corruption. The ECU now has a new design and part number but you have to do a proxy alignment which is not difficult but you need the software and cable to do it. Multiecuscan software and cable will cost around £100 but it has many other uses so is worth the money. Probably took me about 1.5 hours to change it and program it. Total cost including the software about £260. Though I do have a friendly fiat dealer when it comes to discount. I’m in the Forest of Dean if anyone needs the help

You were lucky mine lasted 10 days, robbing bar*ted's.

Does anyone know if the new designed ECU is compatible with both the x250 & x290 Fiat based vehicles ?
Thanks

There’s loads of new ones matched to the old vehicles, when you go to Fiat they will need your chassis number for the correct part!
One part does NOT fit all👍

Gonna die!!!! Oh well, get it fixed and only your passenger - who will very likely not have an airbag - will die. And if you have a vehicle pre-airbag, that must be a deathtrap than?
