Most of the season out of the window due to health

jako999 good that the problem has been caught early cardiac care has come on leaps and bounds over the years.
Hope you get your operation slot soon so that you can stop worrying.
You can look forward to all your future trips while recovering.

You must be in a terrible state of shock at the moment so that’s probably why you’re wondering why you bothered with you’re healthy eating, not smoking and keeping fit. It was worth it though, you might not have survived to be telling us this tale. Good luck with your procedure and your recovery.

just goes to show eat, smoke, drink and be a couch spud because it makes no difference in the end.
The morale is do what you want and have what you want.

Thanks all unfortunately my wife won’t drive the van and there is no way she can lift the loo or anything like that.
My husband similar at 58. Fit, non-smoker etc, sudden heart attack followed by double bypass. The cardiac consultant said that he didn’t choose his parents very well - it was congenital narrow arteries.
As others have said, being otherwise fit and well does make a difference to recovery but you must still be careful.

I am sure your wife will be able to step up but I do understand suddenly driving the MH a step too far.
We went for convalescence to the Railway Unions hotel in Dawlish as it was paid for by RR, has gentle walks to the sea front. Then we had a hotel holiday in Scotland. Yes, I had to do all the driving and all the lifting of suitcases (do not even attempt anything even the kettle if I remember correctly), but we had a lovely trip.

That was 20 years ago.

Your problem has been found and is going to be sorted, you will end up in a better position than those wandering around not knowing if a bombshell about to hit.

We did inform DVLA but they were not interested, but he had to have the cardiac tests at 70 for C1. I think he refrained from driving for longer than 6 weeks by choice - I think he just got comfy in the passenger seat 🤣

Wishing all the best for the op.

Well the new van we waited a year for and has done 200 miles is going to sit there for the next 3 to 4 months, I’m pretty fit exercise, don’t smoke, don’t drink and a veggie all in all healthy.
Got a few left shoulder pains when pushing hard on my bike or hiking up a steep hill nothing much, had an angiogram yesterday and they’ve kept me in need an urgent triple/ quadruple bypass I’m still in shock.
Just goes to show eat, smoke, drink and be a couch spud because it makes no difference in the end.

Just sat here now waiting for an op space.
If you ever get anything no mater how small get it checked apparently I’m lucky to be alive and only 55.
Thanks
You will be fine and get a new lease of life, my neighbour did.

Good thing is, you have something to look forward too !.

All the best

Sorry to hear about your problems, it's frustrating when you do everything to stay healthy and get hit by something like that.

In our first lecture at uni the professor of medicine said the best way to ensure good health is to choose your parents! Despite all we do to live right if it's written in your genes there's a good chance something will bite you in the backside sometime.

We must just do the best we can and still enjoy our lives.

Hi I too have missed much of the year due to chemo and now an operation so will not be able to drive for 4-6 weeks. Did not SORN the vehicle in the hope for a bit of respite which I got last week! Went to Slingsby C and C Site. Excellent with a lovely walk to Hovingden straight off the site. All the best with the op. and recovery

Similar thing happened to me, not over weight or any other signs apart from what I thought was back pain. Was in shock, as were my family. (found out, all of my ancestors on my mums side died of heart attacks) Thinking of you. You are in the best place. The NHS are amazing (y)Edited to say every time Steve tells someone, Gina has a stent, people always say "No, she looks too young" (y) :giggle:
I thought I was fit and healthy. I used to walk 5 to 7 miles every day with my dog. My GP was amazing, she knew straight away what I thought was back pain was chest pain and did an ECG immediately.

Bad news but absolutely the best news ever!!! You did the most important thing and listened to your body, well done you will have many many more years to explore.!!

When I had my pacemaker fitted The bloke in the opposite bed couldn’t even stand up
due to heart problems.
Next morning I woke up to see him laughing and doing Star-jumps !! He had stents fitted and said he felt INSTANTLY 30
years younger !! True story!!
Your base fitness will aid your recovery
VERY much.
You will be even fitter than you were before.
Bad timing jako999 but soon be behind you mate.
Positive mental attitude 👍

Given your previous health and excellent lifestyle I am wondering if your heart problems could have been caused by an extremely rare reaction to the covid jab? It can in very very rare cases cause heart problems like clots, myocarditis or pericarditis. Glad it was caught in time and I am sure you will soon be enjoying your motorhome.

Being fit has most likely saved you from having a massive heart attack. If you were sat still all day doing nothing or at a desk you wouldn't have noticed the shoulder pains (y) Good luck for the Operation.

Thing is we always expect it to only be the older ones who have heart problems.

Sorry to hear of your problems Jako, you are not on your own, our van has been stood for two years except for one run. I too thought I was fit until I blacked out riding my motorbike!! They immediately grounded me and for the past 12 months I have been through ECG's, scans, a 48 hour ECG monitor, angiogram and finally an echocardiogram, thankfully I don't require bypasses, just the left side of my heart in not functioning properly, more tablets and an op to insert a heart monitor for now. Good luck with it, hope all goes well.

I know how you feel. I ran an activity company, took mountain bike groups out, ran 3 times a week and dived regularly, gave up smoking 25 years ago, weighed 79kg. Had a heart attack while reading the Sunday paper! I did feel a lot of "why me??" at first, but hey ho,it could be worse.
Yes it's difficult to predict these events , I think a lot has to do with genetics not sure if you have heart disease in your family ? My wife has heart disease and most of her family on her mams side also had heart disease . If it's any comfort my has had treatment of one sort or another for 30 years and has learned to live with the problem , I know it can worrying and daunting at times .
Good luck to you and the original post jako999

wish you all the best with the op, hopefully soon. Spent ages in cardiac angio suites (working) and have seen how successful and transforming such procedures can be.

Don’t get too uptight they do loads of these ops every day..
you will be fine..

I read your post and subsequent responses and went away to think without posting. But I'm back now.

Just how are we supposed to differentiate between a pulled/achiing muscle and a heart problem? I've no idea but I'm so glad that your angiogram showed a problem and the outcome is going to be so good for you.

It'll all soon be in he past and a talking point with fellow campers.

Good luck and happy motorhoming seasons to come 💜💜💜

What prompted you to have an angiogram was it just the left shoulder pains ? I must say it is scary reading how from being healthy with a slight shoulder pain you are suddenly in need of an urgent operation .

My husband had a tripple by-pass, repaired aneurysm and replacement heart valve (might as well do the valve seeing as we'll be in there anyway says the surgeon) about 4 years ago in his late 70's. The worst bit was waiting for the op. Afterwards he was too busy getting better to worry about it.

You don't know if it's muscular or heart problems until they are checked out.

Couple of weeks ago late on the saturday night, he had a pain high up in his shoulder and felt unwell. NHS were brilliant. NHS 24 sent the ambulance - about 5 minutes wait for them. They e:mailed the ecg to the Heart consultant about 90 miles away who said it was seemed OK but just in case take him to A & E for the full check up. Examinations, ECG, scans etc. later they said he had a pulled muscle but not to worry - if it happens again don't worry about getting it checked up again - better safe than sorry. A & E was empty at 2am on a Sunday morning. It's not so bad living in a sparsly populated area!!!
The real problems arise if they are not diagnosed.
Health travel insurance is also more expensive.

Sorry to hear your news, at least they’ve found it early and you’re fit. I am sure that there are enough people on here that with the right insurance cover could drive you van and leave it somewhere for you.

Personally I would be whooping for joy that they found this in time. One operation and a few weeks recovery and you'll be good for many more years.
You're right about do whatever you want though. I had 2 very close friends - One looked after himself all his life & dies of cancer at 67. The other smoked, drank was very overweight all his life, never exercised. He reached 71!...Go figure.

I don’t know. With mine recently the pain was in my back, nothing in my chest. I thought it was my shoulder as I have an impingement however I was vomiting bile so after taking paracetamol with no relief I phoned for help.

I had an echo audiogram about 6 years ago and another last June it showed that my leaking heart valve had got worse and needed monitoring I received a text message yesterday advising another in 4 weeks if it's got worse they will deal with it hope yours goes well

My husband was told he would need a triple by pass and they ended up fitting 7 stents. He said he felt fantastic afterwards and the most amazing thing for me was before the op his complexion was grey and afterwards it was a healthy pink! We just notified the travel insurance company who weren’t bothered because he had got it dealt with. Hope your procedure goes well whatever route your cardiologist take. Btw heart disease runs in my husbands family as well
