Yes we did last year and it was fantastic weather, shorts and T shirts all week just one day of rain, obviously this year could be different. Still end of the harvest so some activity on the slopes but generally it was quiet but lots of MH about.

D
All is well on the Mosel, we are off on a day trip to Cochem for lunch. Plenty of pitches with electric as I speak.
Dave, hope to call in your rolling meet at some point in a few days. Just landed off the tunnel yesterday and heading slowly towards the Moselle which is all new to us. Prob have a look at Trier first and then make our way up. So any suggestions welcome.

While you are in Trier, the Roman gate (Porta Nigra) is worth a look at as are the Forum baths and the Amphitheater, but bare in mind that these and the other museums are shut on a Monday

If you want a good nights sleep, then do not pitch up at the site next to the river bridges at Schweich, as the traffic and lorries thunder across the motorway bridge

Don't bother with Schweich  go to Weingut Fenton lovely SP, you can cycle to Trier from here or over the river to Mehring 2 good SP there.

we are coming over on the 5th entering Germany at Aachen for a 3 week trip ,then driving down towards Reil never been to Germany before we have a dog ,bikes and dog trailer any suggestions for places to visit on our way down for nice gentle cycling along rivers etc, open to any ideas Thanks

Trier has a Stellplatz just on the other side of the river, Campercontact no 2488. Busy, so need to get there reasonably early. Looks a bit scruffy in parts but very convenient for the town which is just a walk over the bridge. Some of the pitches have EHU. Good for visiting the town but not the place for a peaceful sit outside the motorhome.

Been hanging on to see how things pan out - bitten the bullet and will be across to Aachen on Sunday. Will be wandering down at some point in the first week. Love the Mosel but have never dropped into Reil before.

We had this one pencilled in and left yesterday and as you say cracking spot, but huge areas reserved for German version of rolling meets and boy when the Germans gathers in numbers can they talk :giggle::giggle:

Now parked up wiyh other Motorhomes in the large Mcdonalds car park at Trier. The Stellplatz on the other side of the bridge looks busy. We will stay here tonight and head off to Reil tomorrow. A lot warmer today as well. Last two days have been a bit wet to say the least.

What's the situation at Reil with respect to available places. We will be arriving tomorrow and boss wants to get some lecce so hair drier can be used. The Stellplatz at Trier looks full, must be 100 plus motorhomes in there, nose to tail

People coming and going at Reil. Turn up and you'll get a riverside space within a couple of days if not sooner.
elec 16a very good €2 a night.
Mena can dry her hair to her hearts content!

How's your Internet holding up Sue, used up 24gb yet?

Paying AND lecky. You will be drummed out of the FLTs Phil. Next you will drinking expensive beer ...... :ROFLMAO:

PS Have you bought Mena that nice new step she deserves yet???

Brendan 20g used so far. Have ordered voda 100gb a month. Should hopefully arrive this week. Fingers crossed.

I may have some bad news for you there Sue, depending on how long you're planning on staying around the Mosel.
I've had a vodafone 100gb for a couple of years now and find it great most places, including most of Germany, but unfortunately not the Mosel valley.
For some reason their signal is almost non existent there.

As an example of how good it can be, this was in Holland, not many wired connections at home achieve that.

Unfortunately I don't think you'll see anything like this in Reil, and that's why I also had a Smarty sim 30gb/month 20gb usable in roaming for £10/month on a 30 day rolling contract using the 3 network.

I only do this to be in the company of other Funsters Peter. You should know this by now you bad boy. As for Mena's hair needs, she is in sure no different to other Funster wives. You RIP the piss out of my mobile step at your peril lad, you have now been duly warned. As for the cheap booze, I seem to be awash with high quality German gear at the moment and if we meet up I'll let you have a snif.

Also, saved 11.90 by parking next to McDonald's last night along with 23 other Motorhomes. I think the Stellplatz at Trier was full anyhow.

Pils €1.20 for 500ml here in Kesten

Now at Reil and it's a beutiful location and I've crossed swords already with Herman the German in front of me because my motorhome is facing a different way than the others. I told him in Engerland we put the Hab doors on the correct side of the motorhome and he can do one. Now others have parked the same as me and Herman has got a monk on ! ( That's FLT code for miserable twat!). Anyway, do not approach Reil grom the West, the road is closed and it's a mare. We ended up coming in from the North on the wrong side of the river too. South should be good too.

For years we have used a seemingly infallible system for deciding where to stop for the night, this involves identifying a green area on a paper map, driving there then look for somewhere to stay using all the usual apps.
Tonight’s was a corker, a stellplatz by a reservoir in In Den Hofen. A Mecca for walkers, cyclists and paddle boarders, it was advertised at €8, sadly I suspect the facility been recently purchased by a motorHome dealer or perhaps a British dentist as the machine wouldn’t give us a ticket until it had consumed 15 one Euro coins !!
Anyways I read there is some cheap beer available in Reil so we shall head there tomorrow.
PS. We have a box of wizardry for Snowbird that may help with his comms.

Our last day at Reil. We found this little winery with an honesty box in operation. Some very good locally produced Reisling at very good prices. We also enjoyed the company of Debbie and John Paul. Like minded Funsters and to top off a very nice day got an email this morning telling me I had won £525 on the National Lottery. Lucky, lucky FLT or what!
