Morocco 23

Just noticed on google maps a possible better night halt than Asilah for after the ferry.
Rest Area Larache, with a Marjane very close by.
Has anyone stayed on there if so any good?
We ve not stayed there but feedback on P4N doesn't sound good.

Yes. Stopped there once about y years ago. Once was enough. The toilets were seriously awful. And the nearby Marjane didn’t sell alcohol either.
Moroccan facilities are generally pretty rubbish. I personally would not travel in Morocco without a decent shower and toilet in my Motorhome.

We used it as a stopover in 2019 and 2020( when it was packed to the rafters with folk trying to get home for COVID)
It's convenient, friendly, does nice food but the toilets were probably the worst we experienced in Morocco.
Marjane is a ten minute walk down the main road. We know someone who got a proper signed up Maroc Telecom SIM there.
Marjane also had cheap diesel.

Is this the motorway rest area? I can't see any sites near on PFN or search for sites.

I'm fairly savvy when it comes to technology but I can't get my Maroc Telecom SIM to give me internet. It was set up by Maroc Telecom office in Asilah and wife's works fine, mine gives me WhatsApp and Facecloth but no browser connectivity. If anyone has any ideas before I return to Maroc Telecom please it will save me a detour

Has it come to the end of the term? Try sending a txt to 580

Initially mine wouldn't work until I set it to LTE/2g/3g and not 4g but I don't know if that really was the problem all I know is started it working, I've just had a look and there doesn't seem to be a 4g option at all now LTE/3g/2g auto connect thats what its set at the other options are 3g/2g auto connect, 3g only or 2g only.

No, recently set it up, Tried sending a txt to 580 and got my balance of 9GB and change...still perplexed but reassured I'm not a complete idiot, thanks for the ideas

A government run road condition map . It seems to be a 'live' map of road/ snow closures
Yes we are stuck on the route from Tata now.
Night in the stone desert.
In the rain!
Which means the road is not opening soon.

Good Luck! At least the locals prayers have been answered

Getting the dog to Morocco! We got a 6pm appt at Clinicanimal in Palmones for the health check. It was easy for us to park there. She listened to his heart and asked how old he was. Didn't need to scan him. I needed his passport and titer test certificate, my passport and vehicle V5. She then filled in a health certificate form by hand and spent about 45 mins inputting into the port computer for the import export certificate and gave me a printed letter with a code to give the PIF office. The charge was 21 euros for the health certificate and 80 euros for the import certificate. Not sure if others have had to pay for the PIF certificate or if I was paying for the vet to input it.
You need to have an appointment with the PIF office and I had emailed earlier and got one confirmed for 9.30am the following day. The dog has to travel within 24 hours of the vet examination.
Getting to the PIF building was awkward. There are some roadworks so the satnav wasn't helpful. We followed signs for PIF which then disappeared on one rounderbout. Lots of juggernauts with air horns letting us know there displeasure as we were dithering. Found ourselves heading for the lorry parking but managed to divert into a small carpark for one of the port buildings. Not really suitable for an 8m motorhome but I left Mr P and eventually found the right building. The office is on the second floor. Handed over my documents and 20 mins later I'm handed a 4 page certificate for Max minus the handwritten AHC. The official told me it was all perfect so I felt relieved.
We then managed to find our way to the departure car park for the ferry. We're asked if we have a dog and they look at my "perfect" paperwork. Hmm, "you need to come with us to answer some questions". Me and two port officials march off to an office where they talk to other officials through a hatch. They have some broken English and ask where I got the "perfect" paperwork from. There is then an exchange when I'm not sure if they are saying I have to go back to the PIF or did I get this from the PIF. We're joined by a police man in the background and then after probably the most stressful 15/20 minutes of my life suddenly the lady behind the hatch says "it is all good, you are going to Morocco". I don't really understand what happened but think this system is still fairly new to them.
The crazy thing is that Max has not been scanned once. As we went through Morocco customs the large black Alsatian sniffer dog perked up and the handler said "have you got a dog?" Here we go I thought and he just smiled and said "I thought so".
Well done if you got to the end of this!

A French guy I got talking to in Tafraoute put me onto a site dedicated to Campervans / Motorhomes for Morocco. The link is:]

CCO Maroc

You will need to register (free) but can be viewed in English

Is there any concern about the water that's coming down off the mountains. ( I think I know where that picture is)

We are coming over in a couple of days and thinking of hot footing it down south. Having seen horrendous videos over the last couple of days of the mountain roads falling apart , we wondered if the coast roads would suffer eventually.

I haven't picked up on any concerns, and we have seen no evidence of any serious damage, and now down around Sidi Ifni and I think they've had less. I think we will get to Tafroute with no probs but going east after that ckuld be a problem but Insh Allah

I've found this Facebook site that seems to have regular updates. If the link doesn't work it's called severe weather marocco

The Maroute website looks good but doesn’t seem to have changed in the few days I've been monitoring it, If its correct the N12 is impassable and there is no viable route from the coast to Zagora for the past few days. I wonder how often its updated and whether Jays2 can update us?

Some of that looks a bit worrying, Is anyone in Tafraoute right now?

We had a two night stop due to the river just after Tissint. It was passable with care this morning after a JCB cleared it.
We carried on and are close to Foum Zquid and the river is flowing 40 cm deep at the ford so we are waiting again until it drops.
We are not alone and it’s quite fun watching some of the larger campers cross.
We are with at least 20 other vans with 90% being from Germany .
A couple of Taxis dropped off there loads and this truck came and picked them up!
