Morocco 2017

To all who are interested in this thread it is sad to report that arriving at Mustafa's it was sad to be confronted by his son to convey of his fathers passing six months ago of a heart condition.

Last year we spent more than two weeks with the Mustafa's (respray and other work) and got to know the family quite well. His elder daughter was at University, his son was still at school while his three year old daughter was toddling.

His son said that the business now passed to him and he was keen to keep up the garage tradition. The same people working for his father are still present and I am allowing them to try and resolve some recurrent starting problems that I have previously had with the van and some additional work on the batteries etc;.

The above mentioned son who left school this/last year now has the business to take care and I have posted recently that I was sceptical about mechanical work carried out on behalf of his fathers work. However, in the circumstances it seems only fair to give his young son a chance to build a reputation over time like his father.

I apologise for the length of this post but it is for information only. Of course, I will report on results of the work carried out in respect of value, quality and service received.

God rest Mustafa's soul!

So sad, we have had work done by him most times we have been in Morocco, the joys of owning an older motorhome.

Best of luck to the son, we look forward to reading your future comments.

RIP Mustapha, such a nice guy as testament to the messages left here, we had 5 days at his garage, a few of them along with Colin & Sandra "armytwowheels" made to feel very welcome and so helpfull.
Sad news indeed.

25 litre cartons of vino Tinto, 4 litres of gin, 18 litre bottles of San Miguel, 36 cans of San Miguel, 120 cans of kronenburg, 3 bottles of champagne, and three quarters of a bottle of baileys, oops sorry now only half a bottle swmbo is drinking it. And, I forgot, 20 bottles of 8% dutch beer from the micro brewery under the windmill in Amsterdam, sorry now only 19 , and 4 litres of don Simone sangria !!

You only going over for a month?

Sad to hear about Mustafa. I did not meet him but know how good he was to MHF members and always recommended him. I do hope his son can make a go of it and that his high standards continue.

On a lighter note "Grupo Terry" have all arrived safely at Assilah after a god-awful early start. We booked the 9.00 am ferry which departed at 9.07 - that's on time for Morocco - and which was less than half full. Took exactly an hour from docking to leaving the port, including getting cash exchanged. As expected they put us all together in one block, cleared everybody else then did us; good job the ferry was virtually empty.

But the early start was great as it meant we had all day to get things done; lunch at the guardian parking then a leisurely stroll to Maroc Telecom, then back again 'cos his computers were down! Got it sorted later though - I'm on Maroc Telecom writing this. The manager himself took charge of our group and he was very good and very knowledgeable, as I think everybody needed something different. And he spoke good English too so everybody is happy.

The GP has changed quite a bit, now there is a cafe/restaurant at the entrance and the parking itself has been extended and resurfaced. Waste disposal is better organised too. However chatting to the guardian it seems that at the end of the year it is being closed to make way for new development all the way along the beach front from the harbour to well north of the GP, all with government money. Not to worry though because they are taking over a disused sports ground across the way to replace it. The old harbour GP is being closed at the end of this month.

Four vans are planning to move down to Moulay Bousselhem tomorrow, the two "youngsters" are staying here another day having fallen in love with the town. So it's a lovely evening here at Assilah, has been warm and sunny all day and we've decided to try a group meal at the cafe/restaurant - we'll report back.

Oh yes, the group ticket was no problem, they issued individual tickets at the port although it helped that I provided them with a list of names/vehicles.

So far so good and we look forward to meeting up with all the other Funsters who are already here or are crossing later.

Report back on work carried out by Mustafa's son Hrouri pronounced (Her-rey-rey): He changed one of my glowplugs and I hope that might solve the problem. He charged 80 Dihram for the plug and 50 to fit -- about 15 Euro all in. I replaced a plug in France a few months ago for 22 Euro from Mercedes so a bargain I think. He also fitted much better and stronger wire connections to two leisure batteries (which were failing because of poor wiring) for 90 Dirham.

Funsters Fred and Gwyn had a 150 watt solar panel fitted for 2500 Dirhams -- took about an hour and Fred pleased with the work. The first price given was 2800 and we said too expensive, hence the reduction to 2500. All in all the service, price and work carried out was very good -- as I said the same people work there and Mustafa's son has his same friendly nature, although his English is not so good. Son's phone number 0632943635 and I hope this helps other funsters!

P.S. lost one of my back stabilisers about 45 kilometres from Agidar on the cost road from Essaouira -- anybody who finds by side of road will be rewarded 200 dirham or, for more incentive 5 case of beer!

Regards, tgee

I have just been watching Mr Motorhome's videos from 2014 trip on youtube.

Brings back great memories, need to get my daughter sorted out now with either a proper job or a bloke so she can look after her own kids and I can go off touring instead of the school runs.. (y)

Keep the updates coming.. :)

We were on that road the other day, but sorry didn't see your missing stabiliser. We're heading back towards Marrakech tomorrow.

Arrived in Tafroute yesterday from Sidi Ifni and opted for power and wifi (important for working ugh!) next to the GP. Very cold last night but gorgeous today. will cycle out some tomorrow and possibly the next day before heading east to Tata. I would appreciate any knowledge of the best route. I understand that there is a new road from the 106 to the 109 but can't seem to find anyone who has driven this. Also further on I believe that the N12 from Foum-Zguid to Zagora is now tarmac. My 2014 Michelin does not show this!
Any help will be appreciated.

We're having a great time 3 weeks in. Drove down the coast as far as Sidi Ifni then took the N12 and are now at Tata. Couldn't find the camperstop at Assa and the one at Akka is still closed. Got all the paperwork thoroughly searched at police road block at Akka to. If you're going this way, there is a fantastic museum at Tighmert explaining the old Nomadic way of life. The curator speaks English, 25Dh per person.
We've also heard the N12 is now Tarmaced from Foum-Zguid to Zagora but won't be giving it a try for another couple of days

Lovely road from Foum-Zgoud to Zagora, we drove it last year. Sorry can't help with your other query.

In 2015 we took the R106 and at Azgor turned right onto a minor road that took us on a stunning drive across open ground and rejoined the R109 just south of Issafn. This saved us a whole chunk of time and the scenery was mind blowing. There will be pictures in the 2015 thread if you can be bothered to find them.

TAFRAOUTE TO TATA

Leave Tafraoute on R105
At junction with R106 turn right
Follow R106 to Azgour
Turn right in Azgour (possibly signed Ifsfass and Tassaout)
Follow this road up hill and down dale till you reach R109
Turn right and follow R109 to its junction with N12.
Turn left and follow road all the way to Tata

This is a beautifully panoramic and scenic route which we did easily in our 8 Mts A class.

For those heading towards Sidi Ifni we can thoroughly recommend a stop off at Camping Erkounte. Located on the R104 between Mirleft and Legzira its run by Abdullah who spent 25 years in Denmark. He is in tune with what Europeans require of a camp site. The showers and toilets were the best we've seen in two trips to Maroc. He's also a very good chef and rustles up some good grub.

Done that route the last couple of years and can confirm the road from Foum Zguid to Zagora is excellent.
Also the route you are talking about from Tafraout to Tata is stunning, you follow the R106 to Azgor, there is now a roundabout at the junction which you go right at. Easiest way is to download Maps.me it's on that, used that to travel round Maroc the last couple of years,
Dave

You cant miss it (Erkounte), as the entrance is straight off the main road. There is access from the camp site to a beautiful remote beach which is unaccessible to the majority of passing tourists.

Its well worth taking the short bus ride to Legzira and walking down to see the cliff arches.

He hasn't lost his love for Motorcycles Phil :)
Hope your both well, our love to you both.
Cheers Bud and same to you and yours. Will be in Spain from end of Feb moving into Portugal sometime in April. We will follow this thread and hopefully have the opportunity to meet up with some of you after you exit. Have a great time and get ready for more tears in Feb when the 6 Nations begins. Our side is well depleted but we will still molicate the Leek Munchers. I do fear the Irish though.
Safe Travels.

We're on our way but staying in Nerja for a few heavenly sunny days on the beach at the Playazo end, loads uf untroubled motorhomes park here for weeks.
Also the garage here on the A7 is brilliant for motorhomers. There is mhome wash, water, emptying, laundry, wifi in the excellent cafe and even a dog wash. Will be heading for Algerciras Friday and hoping to cross the same day. Anyone else?
