Morocco 2016

no point trying to reason with some folk....just don't want to hear it. and any other opinion is condescending bullshit:mad::mad:

Sorry, but I think you're overdoing it. Yes it's right that you have an opinion to express and I'll fight to the death to preserve that right (unlike some countries, not necessarily Muslim either) but you've made your point. I won't register your interest in going to Morocco then.

Everybody else, make your own minds up, it's a free country.

safest way is down through portugal . the med coast is the highest risk.
When we went earlier this year we went via the N10 route to Bordeaux, down most of the A63 (only paid last 2/3 tolls) then took the N121-A at Spanish boarder to Pamplona - Overnight Aire at Valladolid , overnight again at Zafra then onto Algecerias the next morning topping up our LPG on Motorway just before Algecerias. No tolls paid and nearly all motorway/dual carriage way.
Will be going via Benidorm next year to visit friends in Villjoyosa otherwise would use this route again.

The highest risk of what?
terrorists . have a look at the gov advice pages on google . work it out for yourself . spain and france high alert so going portugal way should be safer . portugal as only an underlying threat. so go portugal way be safe and dont take the risk.

Interesting how governments react when there is an Incident. Last year the French goverment advised their citizens not to go to Moroc because of the terrorist incident in Paris which turned to be a blessing for everybody else who went as it was estimated the French were about 60% down on previous years attendance. (Clearly a lot of French ignored the knee jerk reaction by their goverment and like the rest of us had a very safe and enjoyable experience. The UK, German and Dutch goverment did not raise their risk of going and the UK (IMO) took a blase approach of assessing Moroc as being 'at risk' which they also applied to everywhere else too !!).

In June the Massacre on the beach in Tunisia resulted in France and Spain being declared as a 'high risk' because of the holiday resorts being used by many british families and this remains in place today.
I think anyone who is just driving through these countries are at no more risk than they were before all of these attacks took place.
I can not for the life of me see a terrorist group or individual planning to attack a camping car/motorhome when driving along the road or even parked up for the night.
I guess if things do not change Morocco is going to be the preferred destination next year of tens of thousands of camping cars/motorhomes and I hope to be one of them......again.

You know just how big France and Spain is, you know how much traffic there, so even if they had tens of thousands of terrorists the chances of being hit is about the same as winning a big lottery prize.

Reading on our forum and posts on other MH sites you are far more likely to get robbed in the street , on the train or your MH broken into in Spain or France than Morocco .

According to our Moroccan friends there are more undercover Police and Army personel in Morocco than those in Uniform .

We hope to be in Morocco before Xmas this time ...

Europe and Spain is toooooo dangerous .....

Decided to make an adjustment to our trip in 2016 after consultations with Boss! We're now going to add a month on when we come out of Maroc to do Portugal again. Must visit 'The Rock' this time though and I know a busman who knows of a great place to park the motorhome.

Booked ferry Portsmouth to Bilbao for 8th Jan. The ferries are starting to get well booked already. All the outside cabins and pet friendly cabins are already booked for most of January.
I haven't booked the return ferry yet as I need to wait until after 1 Nov to collect my Club Voyage bonus credit.
if we drop in at Zahora for a few days to see the reprobates ensconced there (@PenelopePitstop) we should be at Palmones Lidl on 16 Jan ready to cross over to Maroc on 17 Jan.

Terrorism

There is a high threat from terrorism in Morocco.

Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners. In April 2011, 17 people were killed and 25 injured in a large explosion in Marrakech at the Argana Restaurant in Djema el-Fna Square.

Protective security measures are in place at many Moroccan hotels and sites popular with tourists. Security measures, including security personnel, may be visible in certain areas.

The Moroccan authorities have warned of an increased threat linked to the growing number of Moroccans sympathetic or belonging to international terrorist organisations operating in Syria, Iraq and Libya, and regularly report the disruption of terrorist cells.

There is considered to be a heightened threat of terrorist attack globally against UK interests and British nationals, from groups or individuals motivated by the conflict in Iraq and Syria. You should be vigilant at this time.

Having watched what is going on in the EU
I think it will be safer to go to Morocco than to stay in Europe .

There are more undercover Police and Army personal in Morocco than those in uniform .

In fairness the level has gone up from medium to high in the last couple of weeks, but then France and Spain are still on High as well.

The football team who play at La Linea are called REAL LINENSE BALOMPEDICA. Its an ideal place to spend a few days in Gib. Not sure what happens on match days though.

Thanks for this Ken, appreciate the information. By the way, I have a spare Gaslow filler cap and have been informed you no longer have a spare ! Yours for a mere £20.00. Oh! it's a little used hence the low price.
