Morocco 2013

Hi n Hers Hammam

Pleased you enjoyed your scrub up

Rosie and i went in together , the Girl spoke no English , she gave us a big smile and gave us what can only be described as a posing pouch

Rosie's was White and mine was Blue, i am sure that her's was bigger than mine :Eeek:

We had the same routine , Rosie loosing skin in spaghetti strands where mine came of like Salami Sausages :Rofl1:

We stayed at the Valley du Ziz for the last 2 nights , Camping Tissirt good place , clean toilets and showers ( wood fired showers ,) 65D with Electric , There is a shop about 1/2 mile along the village,
No wifi or phone signal .

We are now up in the Gorges du Ziz parked up with wifi , catching up on the news , Then going back to the Jurassic park campsite ( Hope Father Jack isn't there ).

Then heading for Midelt , It is supposed to be raining further up North :Eeek:

Hi, Happy Herman .. Hope you are enjoying Morocco :thumb:

We are still in The Jurassic Park Hotel grounds and it is lashing it down  it is like being in the Lake District . Strong winds throughout the night and still blowing hard now .

The ground is large gravel but soft underneath , you can feel it giving as you walk about the campsite , a lot of the sites are similar construction so be carefull where you park :Eeek:
Just been out digging a rain gulley across the pitch to channel the water away ,
There are now waterfalls cascading down the mountains all around us .

Spain, Morocco, Portugal, Spain and we are back where it all started in January.

Back at home in not so sunny Spain, in fact a very wet and windy Spain and we have been reminiscing about our fabulous holiday in Morocco, with the funster group, as we watch the rain lash the windows and the wind threaten to lift the roof. Undoubtedly, this has been one of our top trips, probably the best, since we bought our beloved MH just over two years ago and we shared it with some amazing people to whom many thanks for making it possible.

Snowbird, who planted the seed some months ago, but was unable to join the group.

Mustafa, a loveable street rogue who was of great assistance to many of our group, in Asilah, translating our needs to the poor, overwhelmed guy in the phone/internet shop. Mustafa is fluent in English, French, German, Berber and of course Arabic.....and he has to live by the generosity of others!!

Soyfijane/Brahim/Abdou for solving a major squeak in the works of the van armed only, it seemed, with two spanners, a screwdriver, two hammers and enormous patience all at ridiculously low cost, (plus a few unreturned, “borrowed” tools), and some beers. Many thanks guys.

Karim, who made it a pleasure to buy from his arcade shop in Essaouira, we'll be back there.

Mr Policeman, also in Essaouira..... may your camels be infertile throughout this century !!

Abdullah, at Atlantica Park (the first one) for achieving the improbable in record time and also the amazing Rachid Nabil, also from AP, for sharing the magic of your art and providing us with a wonderful, permanent memory of our trip each time we look at the van.

Mohammed (Taghazout guardian), and the many vendors of water, bread, fruit, fish, solar panels, carpets etc., at Taghazout Beach and the herdsmen/women who regularly entertained us simply by driving their animals through our pitches.

Mustafa & Karim (different ones) in Agadir who finally solved the problem with our habitation pump..... but who drained our batteries in the process.

The anonymous young man, proud of his city, who explained the horror and tragedy of the Agadir earthquake whilst we viewed the wonderful new city from the Kasbah hill. (Sic) “My grandparents are rested in this place here and I want people to know of our price paid of this city”

At this point in our journey it became necessary to turn the van around and make a dash back to Tanger Med, in company with Colin & Christina (KiwiCoss) and it would be unfair to close this post without some general comments about the every day Moroccans we met along the way.....

They are a remarkable people, many of whom face daily hardships we cannot begin to imagine just to put food on the table, let alone consider owning/buying many of the day to day items which we take so much for granted. So thank you one and all, the tajine makers, the smiling children, the camp guardians, the “luverly jubberly “ men of Marrakech, the strangers who bade us welcome wherever we journeyed with “Welcome, welcome to my country”.

A final round of thanks must go to our stalwart travelling companions, for much of the journey, Malcolm/Cathryn Bolt and Gordon Jenkins...... we shared the good and the not so good and Anna and me thank you most sincerely for your companionship, assistance and endless story telling. To the remaining funsters in the group, we regret that we did not come to know you better as our paths diverged early in the trip, but there will surely be ….. a next time for all of us, much more of Morocco awaits us all.

Insha'Allah!

Best regards, Bryan & Anna.

PS: With abject apologies to those we have forgotten to mention

And a huge Thank you to you Brian and the other Moroccan Funsters who bought the country and your journey to life, with you storytelling, much appreciated, and I am sure many more seeds have been sown for future journeys.

A few days ago while in Tafroute we drove out to the painted rocks. A Belgian artist persuaded the Moroccan Fire service to hose 18 tons of paint over some rocks in the middle of nowhere in particular a few miles out of Tafroute.
You have to turn off onto a dirt road that is really smooth - a better surface than a lot of the tarmac roads!
1. We parked next to a couple of cute rocks and had a brew.
2. A view of the blue rocks about a mile away
3. A flower Gwen found
4. We drove further on and parked up again.
5. A panorama of the rocks from about a mile away. Sharp eyed amongst you might spot a motorhome parked near the bottom centre of the picture.

Was just wondering if there was any chance of a recipe section where you guys could collate all these wonderful foods/recipes you've been given. I am quite intrigued by the mint tea for example!

I know there is one recipe on here for a tagine, but you guys must have picked up plenty of ideas on your travels!

Meant to post this last night but lost the internet connection.
A few more pics from Tafroute:
1. The Bolts looking very romantic. Those blue rocks are about a mile away.
2. The Bolts and Gwen looking like the cover for a CD by an C&W band.
3. We passed an Argan tree in fruiot on our way back to site.
4. Back at site Gwen decided to do some laundry and made the place look like Itinerants had arrived.

Some pics from the journey from Tafroute to Agdz.
The land is fairly barren but the way the rocks had eroded and been folded into complex shapes is quite astonishing. There were a few big climbs and the road was very rough in places forcing us to slow down to walking pace sometimes to weave around the potholes.
I have four plastic folding crates I got from Lidl last year which stack neatly on top of each other in the garage. After this journey the continuous severe jolts caused them to collapse and pancake on each other. They are repaired (sort of). I now have four crates made of duct tape reinforced with bits of broken plastic.

Hi makems , where are you now ? . Where are heading next ? . Have you had the heavy rain down there ? .

We are near Volubilis ( Meknes ) . and it is still raining ...:Eeek:

People seem to walk astonishing distances. You will pass them on the road in the middle of nowhere literally miles from the nearest habitation.
On market days the ladies seem to wear their best and brightest clothes.
All these pics taken from a moving vehicle so apologies if not quite as sharp as they should be.

Azrou , Cedar Forest ,

If you turn right out of The Disney Land Camp site , and after about 1/2 mile take the right at the fork in the road and head up into the forest , you then go onto a piste and just follow it for about 3 miles you will do a great circular tour through the Cedar Forest ,

When you meet up with the Barbary Apes , they are so gentle , They don't snatch the food they gently take it from your hand , If you have bananas , they wait for you to peel them and pass it to them piece by piece .
I had to chase the wild dogs away from the base of their tree before they would come onto the ground but once they were down they could stand together against the dogs ,

1
The oldest recorded tree in Morocco .
