Vast difference in price between that ferry and the Newhaven - Dieppe route. 🤔
Ferry prices seem to be based on 'what the market will bear'
Newhaven - Dieppe +-£200 for 110 miles
Hawich - Hook +- £280 for 140 miles
Portsmouth - Caen £5/600 for £110 miles

That's 2.5/3 times the cost of a similar distance crossing a bit further up the channel.

Last time I used Newhaven - Dieppe, it was a lot cheaper than £200 because of local subsidiaries, but maybe your right, supply and demand? 🤔

I’ve always said about the uk is that if a certain amount of people use something or go to a particular place then someone will put a fence around it and install a carpark and charge a tenner to use it….😏
Isn't that the world over these days, it's called business? 🤔

But think of the bonus of not having to drive across England d. 🤣
In my case either way to get to Europe (or indeed the Highlands!) I have to grin and bare UK motorways with road works, variable speed limits and cameras, etc:
Hull is 108 miles - 2 hours minimum- then an eye-watering ferry cost taking me to north of where I want to go
Newhaven is 275 - 5 hours minimum - and then circa £200 return.
But to get to my point: Using campsites with full facilities rather than Aires once the other side of the Channel I am typically paying less than £20 per day compared with £35 for similar facilities in the UK. So over a fortnight I can recoup the cost of my ferry (or better if I use Aires).
I in no way begrudge a modest local tourist tax as part of my campsite fee on European sites and, the big bonus - the weather is consistently better over there!!

My two booking this year for myself and 6 metre Moho with senior's discount/subsidies:
27/08 - 10/09 - £209.20
22/07 - 27/07 - £182.00 (A short trip given I was already "down South" with the van)
