So we’re planing to visit Mont Saint Michel this week, probably staying 2 nights, we will have to visit separately as we have an old dog who can’t walk to the island and can’t be left all day.

Looking on the internet the main car park has a section for camping cars but it’s not very big. The text re camping car says “It is forbidden to stay in the car park overnight. Parking at night is permitted, but the car park is not intended as an accommodation area for camper vans.” Not helpful! On SearchforSites there is feedback on people staying so looks like it’s ok, at a price. There is the free shuttle bus (we don’t want to walk or cycle).

Alternatively there is a Camping Car site a mile and a half away. Cost is more reasonable, more pleasant than a car park and the walk to the main car park and bus is doable.

Question is if you don’t use the car park so have a car park ticket can you still use the free shuttle bus?

Thanks

I stayed at a hotel which was on the bus route a few months ago, I took the bus on one of the days and no one asked for any kind of ticket

Shuttle bus is free. They run from the river barrage to the mont and back continuously. The camping car site is ok, or, about 5 miles away is the Acsi site in Pontorson. You can get a dedicated bus from Pontorson railway station, again, regular service.

Stayed at the CCP there last Saturday/Sunday. Perfect for a visit to the island.

Stayed at the Camping Car Park site in May, nice site and easy cycle to Mont St. Michel nearly all on cycle tracks. It was a shame it was very windy.

There are several aires close by, the camping car park one is close to shops and restaurants, if you want something a bit quieter you could try Aire Camping cars L'Anse de Moidrey near Ponterson.

We went last month, fab place to visit, its worth the extra £10 to go through the Abbey, we also enjoyed the headset tour.

There is a park 4 night spot on a church carpark very near we have used before

all good advice and help

about 20 odd years ago, before the big revamp, we stayed in the big aire near the main gate.

we had the RV.. George, you can see it in the carpark.. I took the photo from the top of the Mont .. at night it was an amazing sight .. photo taken form the carpark

We've previously stayed at a paid for Aire in Ardevon (48°36'14.04"N 1°28'39.69"W) which is an easy cycle ride to the Mont.

We stayed at the camping car park site in May just gone and then just walked to Mont St Michele as it wasn't that far and nice and flat. The camping car park was very spacious with loads of spaces and i think it was relatively cheap we all as it includes electric like most of them do. deffo recommend

Hi Andy Andy MacD We’re here now at Pontorson and caught the scheduled bus there & back. All good but timed to train times so not frequent. Plus full of tourists arriving by train so a bit of a panic to getting on the bus, which were full and standing crammed on. Flat charge 3.10€ each way! We caught the 1130 there and the 1730 back, one before was 1300 & last is 1800. It goes to the Mount like the shuttle buse.

The free shuttle bus is included with the car park fee but I doubt they need to show a ticket.

The Aire looked pretty full as we passed it there is another ACSI site near the Aire

Someone said the car camper park at Hotel Vert is by the shuttle but costs a fortune?

Stayed at the Camping Car Park 2 weeks ago, a pleasant bike ride to the Mont St Michel, passing some nice eateries on the way. A short walk to a boulangerie nearby.

Thanks all. We’ll go to the CCP site, prob cycle to the shuttle bus. And I’m always up for a visit to a boulangerie!

I'm going next week. Can any one recommend place near by to park up a motorbike? Thanks.

Visit over. Stayed at the CCP, €16.50. Site was immaculate. Easy cycle along cycle path and I chose the second bike parking beside the river barrier and got shuttle from there.

As we have old dog we went separately. Elaine went in late afternoon, very busy with tour and school children groups. I chose the following morning, set off before 9. I was one of the first into the Abbey and it was very quiet.

Thanks for the advice given above.

There is motorbike parking in the main car park, section P9. From their shuttle or walk.

So what did you think of Mont St Michel.?
I'm not big on tourist traps so we used the CCP site and walked in. We had a quick nosey around and then left the hoards to get on with it.
Nice place to see once, but massively overpriced for everything and far too busy for my taste.

TBH much as you. Walked up Main Street directly to Abbey, did the walk through the Abbey and out through the gardens ending back on Main Street again. The stuff in the shops you can buy anywhere and as it was getting busier I left. €11 for the Abbey, free bus, cost much as I’d expect for a main tourist attraction. Glad I went but no need to go back.
