Hello everyone, this is our first post! Very excited about our new (old) van. Can anyone recommend options for the above? We just need to use phones, possibly laptop, no gaming or heavy duty usage. We have read some very helpful advice on this forum, looking forward to reading lots more!

E. E never let me down no matter where I go, B.T owns this company so BT would work on all EE and B. T

We have a Motorhome WiFi kit, installed by Sunstore Solar, both companies who I can recommend highly from my personal experience with them.

Adam at Motorhome Wi Fi has answered a couple of queries directly for me, with a very quick response time, even though he has no direct knowledge of me as a customer as I bought via Sunstore.

We are just coming to the end of an 8 x week tour of Portugal, and a bit of northern Spain, sailing home on Monday.

Twice or three times we were stranded with zero signal from the van Mi-Fi (Huawei) when we were high up in the hills but in general it is excellent. Really good.

Not so Vodafone................. Before we left I spoke with Vodafone and based on their recommendation I contracted for 12 months to an unlimited data Sim. I specifically asked about time or data volume restrictions in Europe and was told, in writing, that there were absolutely none. Great. Until our data was cut off a few days before the end of our first billing period while in Europe. Several emails and lengthy chat sessions on-line later their position is this:
* They are sorry I was 'misled';
* Vodafone cannot give unlimited data packages for Europe (even though they've no problems selling you extra data when you run out...........)
* They will 'allow' me to exit the contract;
* They will give me £30 as compensation;

As I was/am working while away this is a big issue for me and to say I am annoyed is an understatement, especially at Vodafone's intransigence on the matter.

From experience we use 30 to 40 Gb per month. Vodafone say they will only allow usage of 25Gb per month for a package, no matter how big. So a few days before the end of each billing period I'm stuck.

I am now just about to escalate it to Ofcom, whatever good that will do. Basically Vodafone misold me a contract and are basically telling me tough.

So beware............. In future I think I will buy local Data Sim packages and install them as I go.

What is the pointing model you are referring to please?
Just noticed no-one's answered your question. Poynting Tech is a brand name. They do several aerials suitable for a vehicle roof. Unlike many of the other cheaper aerials available online they come with performance figures and directional graphs for the various radio bands of interest. Different models can receive combinations of mobile data, local wifi and/or GPS. For example

I too am in Spain at the moment with a Vodafone sim. Unfortunately I didn't know this before I came but it will only connect to Vodafone es, which if you go anywhere slightly rural is none existent. All other networks show on my phone movistar, orange, yoigo but next to them it states forbidden. So my phone and contract are useless it does not even say emergency calls only, no, just no service. To say I am not happy is an understatement. I understood roaming was just that, you roamed onto any other network when away.

That's exactly what I thought Bolti, I wasn't aware it would restrict itself to just its own (sister) company while roaming. I'm not sure that wasn't the case in previous years?

Vodafone in my experience used to be one of the better networks for roaming but if this is the case we'd probably better off with other providers to allow that flexibility to pick up the strongest signal, whomever it is.

There are a few 3rd party companies that offer national roaming but they are quite expensive and you don’t get much data allowance.
You’d probably be better off with maybe an EE and Vodafone sim to cover the uk
I thought about getting a 4g Lte mobile signal booster but they’re around £300 to 400
