Hi all. We are about to become full timers, although it's not the right time to do this, personally it is for us as we are about to become unemployed. We've always wanted to tour Europe, so we're going to do it, but very cautiously. The van is now fully kitted out apart from the mobile wifi. Could anyone recommend which system to go for. My partner was about to buy a system from motorhomewifi, but i thought it would be good to get some advice from anyone with more knowledge about these things than us. Please help. Thanks

Hi, sorry for the thread revival. I'm looking to fit an external 4g antenna and all I can find are ones that need a hole through the roof. I already have a hole which my satellite cables run through. Is there an antenna on the market that has a side connection for the cables?
Thanks

the way that your sat cable runs through to your dish, prob runs through a gland entry fitting of some sort.
i managed to route the two mimo wires through the same grommet without making an additional hole.

Yes, that's what I'm after. I'll have to fashion a stand off bracket or pay £35 for the motorhomewifi one.

Well it has to be another (y) for Motorhome WiFi kit, I am using their 4g Smart Flex system and 100gb Vodafone sim, coming through the tunnel I had internet access all the way, (how does that work as no phone service) drove from Calais over three days and now in Kitzingen in Germany, we have had Radio2 on BBC Sounds app bluetooth to the radio and never buffered or missed a beat once now watching Natural world on BBC iPlayer and catching up on fun via the same internet connection.

Full chat 4g in the tunnel on 3 or EE then full chat on orange fr on the way back. Guess euro tunnel have some deal with both.

Fitting a 4g antenna similar to the Motorhome wifi unit through your roof is the simplest and best way. Its a single hole as the cable is inside the stem. Fitting something onto the van side requires fixing holes and a marine style cable gland. Both would be visible, verses invisible for the roof unit.
I fitted mine near the side of the roof. Maybe 250mm in, and 100mm in front of a wall unit. So the internal cable end is not visible behind a curtain.

Well we have a Motorhome Wi-Fi on the roof but up to now our phone has a better reception. On the same SIM card.
So not sure what to think 🙄

We have the same sims as well. Three. In a poor signal area, the mifi installed in the van with roof aerial is better. Enough to watch Netflix etc. if required anyway. But mostly we find its more convenient to have a permanant network running for tablets etc.
