Lots now
Our mobile sim only contract with Vodafone comes to an end in March and I'm not happy about the restrictions and daily costs we incur in Europe.

I do have a smarty sim at £20 rolling contract for my tablet which is perfect for the uk as its unlimited yet only gives 12GB in europe, but this I will keep.
We have 2 phones with Vodafone 100Gb each on a 18 month contract.
We currently spend 5 months in the uk a year.
Could someone point us in the right direction before I start spending time online looking for the best deals.
Thank you

I'm seriously considering Popit

I think you are always going to get data restrictions, like you have with Smarty. Plus some charge a daily amount too. If your happy with Smarty I’d get their phone sim and get 10% of all your charges by including them under one account number so cheaper for all three sims & if the tablet recommends you, you both get £10 Amazon vouchers Then you reccomend your partner you both get another £10 voucher so overall you get £40, how good is that

It's the data that's more important not necessarily the upfront bonus but thank you royandsharont

Do we know if they charge a daily fee when out of the country and can we use our full allowance

I see they have a 100GB for £25 a month

It's been confirmed in email to a few who have enquired that you can use up to your limit in EU without any restrictions or charges, so 100 GB of data

Mr porky - Can confirm Popit is fine. Into third month of usage whilst in Europe. You need to manually swap networks to avoid some shaping, but often disconnecting, using another network, then reconnecting solves the problem.

Will be in Spain and France for just a smidge under four months this trip so will advise all if any issues arise, but I’m sure it will be fine.

Had confirmation from Popit CIO that six months continuous roaming is fine. No charges and full 100Gb per month.

So far so good. 🤞

Hi, did you need to change the APN settings when you left the UK or did it change itself automatically?

shaping?

Didn’t change APN. You’re an ‘in roamer’ so nothing to amend.

Shaping is where network roaming agreements aren’t nailed down to certain minimum service levels with the roaming networks. This means they don’t necessarily provide the optimal possible service to the in roamer. This manifests in many ways but typically with a service delivering poor data speed and switching between 3G and 4G… quite frustrating. I know it’s happening as I can compare it against a Tiekom 300Gb service, so providing a simple field based control point.

I have just purchased 2 popit SIM cards, one at £25 per month with100 gb for mi fi data full use when roaming, and one at £10 with 10 gb but unlimited calls and text for phone again full use when roaming, both on rolling monthly contracts cancel any time

We were formally with VOXI, at the time they were one that allowed roaming in Turkey.
That was abandoned and then in keeping with the other lying networks “ No, roaming, won’t be affected by you know what” free roaming was replaced by the need to buy a roaming pass.
Now with Popit, I must say their customer service seems excellent, the problems I encountered were generated by me!
First trip to Europe next month but reports from others seem positive.
Changing to Popit made me feel better, two subscribers lost from VOXI and Popit gained two! Not much in the grand scheme but all I could do in protest.

I think Popit are doing OK out of MH Fun, I changed over to their 100gb after being with Vodafone for years.

Another vote for Popit, currently in Portugal having been in Spain. Watching Netflix and BBC iplayer most nights without any problems.
My only criticism is that their website takes a while to login to

Thinking of getting the 100gb Popit sim instead of the 300 gb Tiekom sim which needs a VPN . The add on gb deals if you exceed 100gb look expensive £5 for 1gb!

Whats the problem with needing a VPN when using Tiekom

I think it's still steam driven ;)

I think that’s a generous assessment. 🤪

It behaves like it’s hosted on a manky old server, under a desk, with dial up 1mb connection. 🤦‍♂️

Last year we bought a Smarty data add-on when in Portugal and exceeded the 12GB limit without issue. The little bit remaining is still credited to the sim and will be used when abroad this year.

For £25.00 per month you can get unrestricted 100GB data roaming in Europe with Popit mobile. They confirmed to me, in writing this week, if you use the sim card in the UK for two weeks you can then use unrestricted data roaming in Europe for the same price. i.e. £25.00 per 30 days for 100 GB data, for 90 days. (Perhaps longer as they do say up to 180 days on their website and I only asked about 90). Further more you can cancel the contract at any time.

Thanks Carpmart , I had an ASDA sim last year and getting the correct APN settings was a pain. Off to France in 3 weeks armed with Popit 100gb and my Free 210gb sim for the MiFi. Loads of data for the F1 races and for SWMBO to watch the coronation.

I am going with popit. Just got a low cost SIM (low data) in order to set the router up.
Then will upgrade the to 100gb. Before departure.
There web site now says this 100gb is not to be used simply for roaming which I read as needing to use in UK before departure but not sure for how long. I will give it at least a couple of weeks
