Mileage Bands when insuring

They take an average and or if there is more than 2 MOT's and you have a bang they will work it out ,
An average of previous years is not indicative of current annual mileage. I’m sure if I can understand how averages work, so can insurance companies as can the ombudsman.

For example:
  • Year 1 - mileage 1,000 miles
  • Year 2 - mileage 20,000 miles
Average = 10,500 miles
  • Year 3 - anybody’s guess
insurance companies are not a charity

Nor are they at liberty to fabricate ‘facts’.

But if you have been insured with the same company for several years and the mot shows that you have exceeded your mileage in previous years could they say you fraudulently failed to declare that on renewal so the insurance is invalid?

If you had exceeded the declared mileage in previous years then they’d have the basis of a case against you but if you had different declared mileages for those/this year then no as there would be no causal link.
