Microsoft you B@ST@RDS!

Thanks Gellyneck for your advice, some I'm afraid goes right over my head but I'll persevere.
Barrie.

you are never going to believe this but before i could implement some of the above another update got in and crashed my laptop. AGAIN!
not as catastrophic as last time but the expletives were definitely flying thick and fast.
so the quick and dirty way to stop updates as long as u are on wifi is to tell windows its a metered connection and set data limit to 0.
i've use advanced system care pro for years and found a setting in there that stops updates (which it advises against) so hopefully i can now sit comfortably on windows 10 ver. 'berni109 - 6th may 2018' for evermore or until i feel brave enough to switch updates back on.

now just have to rebuild my system to how i like it and so we can watch telly in the van

Yes the 'metered' wifi thing will apparently work on some versions of W10 but not on mine unfortunately, hence why I had to do it the other way.

Mines just upgraded, no problem still running same as before. I think many of these problems are hardware related not software. Microsoft cannot possibly test every upgrade on every computer, all made by a multitude of different companies. Whereas Apple control both the software and construction of Apple products, and for giving you a mainly hassle free computer, they charge 3 times as much as a PC, while using many of the same parts.:)

For me the little bit of hassle I get from PC's are easily offset by the much cheaper price, others feel differently, so it's your money, spend it how you wish.(y)
