Thanks. I will get weighed and make the call.
This is one of the reasons I fitted Continental rather than Michelin, they make much more sense. To close this one off (again). I contacted Continental, who were superb. After checking a few things, this is their answer:
Based on the 225/75 R16 CP 116R and the maximum axle weight you have provided (1850kg front/2000kg rear) the recommended inflation pressure is:
Front: 3.5 bar (51 psi) / Rear: 4.25 bar (62 psi)
The reason for the confusion and higher pressure from tyresafe on the rear is because the ETRTO in their standards manual have a paragraph that suggests all CP type tyres fitted as single fitment rear tyres on a camper should be inflated to 5.5 bar (79 psi) even if the load is lower in order to compensate for the higher likelihood of overloading or uneven load distribution in camper applications.
We have spoken to our R&D people and taken advice which was that we should still relate the pressure to the load on the tyre, but must of course always have sufficient pressure for that load and ensure they are not overloaded and that the weight distribution is kept as even as possible.
Also I can confirm that our tyre will go up to 5.5 bar but we only advise that if the load on the tyre requires it.
As others have said, contact the tyre manufacturer with your information and they will give you the correct answer.
Thanks all.
Dean.
Michellin are following the ETRTO guidance whereas Continental aren't so no real right it wrong answer although Michellin err on the side of safety. This is one of the reasons I fitted Continental rather than Michelin, they make much more sense.
