Getting there!
Been to storage today, found evidence a mouse has been in (a few droppings, 1 on dash, 1 on floor and 2 or 3 in kitchen drawers)

I think it’s not found anything worth staying for and moved on, no evidence to suggest otherwise.

We always remove all food, drinks and loose soft furnishings over winter so I’m hoping we’ve not got an ongoing issue but what do I do now apart from cleaning and disinfecting areas with droppings present?

Just been back, full citrus scented antibacterial wipe down of all surfaces, emptied lockers and wiped everything down. Blasted a full bottle of dettol antibacterial spray everywhere and then scattered a box full of tumble drier sheets in as many places as possible.

Fingers crossed we find no further evidence but I’ll keep checking and go down the trap route if we do.

Make sure you have no paperwork in drawers either - they seem to like that.

No storage company would take responsibility for this. They probably have bait boxes around the facility but would not accept liability for any damage that occurs.
Well they need to. Take them to court and see what happens.

They get in via your tyres.
I set covered traps by the tyres, and as said before check regularly.
They also leave a pee scent trail for others to follow.
They can do a lot of damage in the engine bay, prevention is better than cure.

I was going to but forgot, will check in the week.

Check the air filter housing while you’re at it - nice cozy place for them. I’ve had problems in the past (munched thru turbo vacuum pipe), but since using peppermint oil spray regularly (weekly) I haven’t had further problems - maybe just lucky?
Personally I think baited traps just introduce another food source which attracts them.

The problem with poison is its indeterminate kill, a rodent can need to eat the poison more than once, and if that field mouse /vole get eaten from its natural predator what then happens to the owl?
I think as a layperson it’s illegal to place poison in the open even if covered, professional can as they are/should be responsible.

The evidence is there, rat shit is quite conclusive I would say.
Evidence of intrusion by a rodent cannot be discounted, but to lay blame at the storage facility that it is their fault for such an incursion is I think, stretching a point.
Unless of course, within their terms and conditions they either state that it is the sole responsibility of the vehicle owner to take and make such precautions OR they offer and state that they have in place a facility that regularly checks and has bait stations in place to prevent such incursions.
At the end of the day, it is classed as an act of vermin infestation by a wild animal, and as such is often difficult to insure against, personally.
