Mercedes vario 814 self build bus to FLT palace

My minimal experience is you need a whopping great inverter to handle the start up...
... but yes it can be done
Yes ill be fitting a victron inverter ...i wont be fitting a 240v charger though or any 240v system as i dont plan to use it.
I will have room to increase my solar if i need to though

Max it out, you never can have enough power, you can always sell some to the less fortunate 😇👀😆🤣

Look to the marine community for problem solving this area...

How much refrigeration do you actually need...?
I bought a portable 12v one for u der £200 to keep Kerry's food frozen... I reckon if it was just me , no raw dog food, it would be more than enough capacity to keep some milk, & a day or so food chilled, plus the essential beers

Those with electrical knowledge ....im considering running a domestic 240v fridge off the vario electrical system rather than an expensive compressor 12/24v one ... Ive seen numerous vanlifers doing this as you get bigger capacity for less outlay.

Question is ....will i be able to run this for example off 200ah lithium 24v with 500w solar?

Will probably be OK but I can't get any spec on it their datasheet link doesn't work and a Google search results take you back to the ebay page.
As you will be full timing in the van might be worth getting a known brand.

May be a problem in a Scottish summer:rofl:

i looked for some sort of poiwer consumtion figures for that fridge but couldnt find any however the energy rating of F doesnt inspire me with confidence ,the last fridge we bought was aa rated

How to choose an energy-efficient fridge and freezer

As you have to leave your fridge and freezer switched on 24 hours a day, it’s particularly important to make sure they are as efficient as possible.

Every fridge and freezer sold today must have an energy-efficiency rating of between A+ and A+++. While older models are likely to be rated from A to G, anything that falls below an A+ rating is no longer allowed to be sold.

If your fridge is over 10 years old – or seems inefficient – you might want to think about replacing it before it stops working altogether, as older models will have much higher running costs than today’s A-rated appliances.

It’s worth noting that fridges and freezers are rated on how efficient they are in relation to their size – rather than their kWh consumption.

Generally speaking, this means the bigger the internal volume of the fridge or freezer, the more it will cost to run. With this in mind, you should choose the smallest fridge – or fridge freezer – you can, as this should be cheaper to run. This might, for example, mean buying a smaller B-rated model, rather than a large A-rated one.

It would be worth fitting a 240v charger for emergencies a cheap one with a Lithium profile can be had for around £100.

Makes no economic nor environmental sense to replace a perfectly working A or less rated fridge for one rated A+ or ++
Marketing hype.
You'll never recover the energy savings cost wise.
You'll never recover the environmental cost of manufacturing a new one.

The greenies don't care about that lol ...thats why they want folk to scrap perfectly good diesel and petrol cars and buy crappy electric ones. 😁

Perhaps...i meant i just don't intend to fit an expensive victron charger unit .
Batteries and solar panels wont be victron either but pretty much everything else will be

The bolded red makes absolutely not sense at all.

Is that Project Amber fridge inspiration?
Watched his latest video today and there was the same fridge in his girlfriends build!

I like the way he puts the blame on her, "it's her build and her choices" comes up a fair bit!
There are others the same sort of size which are much more efficient, just don't have the retro vibe.

Having seen some of his choices i think she's quite smart choosing her own way lol. Im a while away from needing a fridge yet so ill see what comes up ...but im not keen on the sizes and prices of the purpose built compressor fridges ...nearly £600 now for a 50l waeco which is really small.

Still small and expensive...and only 12v ...tiny freezer and no security catch etc.
Irony being they also sell the Montpellier fridge by the looks of things but at an eyewatering price

Normal silly prices because it's for the Motorhome boat market.
Aren't Waeco part of Dometic now? That would be enough to put me off.

We have an inverter on our van 2005 year 1500 watt badged Dometic still works lovely.

That is rated F. Assuming it is the old rating scale (it changed recently so you see both in use) it is very poor in energy use.
If it is on the new scale, then F is equal to A+ on the old scale (so pretty good).

I run a A+ LEC Fridge/Freezer that is now rerated as F in my Motorhome. Pretty pleased with it :)

This is the model I got, and from AO.com (Excellent service and good price).

It is some sort of energy rating changeover. what was once A+ is now F

Most new ones now will either be E or F.

I've just bought a new freezer it is rated F.
