Mercedes vario 814 self build bus to FLT palace

I think you might need it disconnected correctly as it also limits the speed when the red light comes on at , flatout 56mph.
Mine has a kienzle tacho in it. Its fine but you need to put a chart it in, don't need to worry about entering anything on it. You. The red light will illuminate if it doesn't detedt a chart or it isn't closed properly, and if you exceed the set speed ( which is alterable) the speed limiter is a separate device which if its got it should kick in at 100kph (62). Tbf its probably fast enough but you could have this taken off.

Yeah its limited to 62mph which is fast enough for me

There's a similar bus to yours on gumtree at the moment. Real tidy looking thing. The seller has ripped everything out and it comes with gas and water/waste tanks.

Could be a nice buy for anyone following your thread who fancies doing the same.

We in the Fire Service had tachos in the trucks but we’re exempt from using them. We had a plastic chart in them which didn’t need replacing and turned off the red light. Might be worth asking your local DVSA testing, tacho centre about this.

Im following that couple on Instagram they only started that a few months ago ..

Re tacho I think your stuck with it as most record the milage
Im not bothered too much about it being there it was the lights i was wondering about and what position the wee knobs are meant to be at. Mot guy never even looked at it ...or the speed limiter which i thought he would have as its set to 62 and not 56

Bizarrely a speedometer is not part of mot test. 62mph is the correct max speed for a bus, lorries are 56. It wont make any difference which position the knobs are in. Likewise you dont need to bother about calibration.

Aye but the dvsa tech advisor had said the limiter would need changed as its no longer a bus psv but an HGV van. So i expected something to be checked at MOT with it being its first mot and plating. I'm now supposed to receive plates from dvsa for it ...

My water tanks will be almost right at the back too ...they will be right behind rear wheel arches one either side beneath the rear bed. It does need some good weight on the back but mine will have that anyway once ive a bike rack on there 😁
I have a 220 litre fresh water tank over the rear axle and a 150 litre grey tank immediately behind it.

Would need a speed limiter if you're not using it commercially?

Im planning about the same in fresh water but with 2 tanks one either side behind each rear wheel arch.... And just 100litre max on my grey as i never carry that much ...i empty it almost daily that will be underslung just in front of the rear nearside wheel.

Ok so a very busy and exhausting day today. Big thanks to my mate who gave me a loan of his generator today and 7 hours of his time till we obliterated the rear of the bus ....... drove to an industrial estate fired up the genny and got fired in ....so here it is ... lock stock and 2 smoking grinders.

Still a bit of steel to come out but can now see the true extent of the corrosion and whats more we can now access it . Scrap guy is coming tomorrow to uplift all this steel .

Finally got them to upload on the 6th attempt but now they are all in the wrong order. Not sure what has been changed on fun with regards to pic posting but whatever it is its a pita and much more complicated than before.

Thats looking like quite a challange! I hope all goes well with it.

I helped a mate who fits towbars to motorhomes once with one of these, he cut big slots through the boot to get the steelwork onto the chassis. Plenty meat on the main body.

Glad you didn't attempt that on Mum's drive Tam😂
Yes she would have killed me for the noise....my ears are still ringing this morning. That was a good 6 or 7 hours of loud constant noise.

I love a challenge 😁 theres a fair bit corrosion in there but everything is repairable and by the time its all cut out and new steel put in it will last another 20 years.

Yes had the boot been in decent condition id have done that too and used the boot space for gas and waste water tanks or something but the steel was rotten and so are the inner cills and a few of the outriggers. My plan at the monemt is to make a new frame from box section at the rear and have 2 large pieces run from the chassis out where the number plate is roughly and then a platform will be attached to that to carry a motorbike. ... something similar to this

He's a good mate Tam.
Yeah he's car daft so enjoys this stuff ... He has 3 sierra cosworths and a couple of supercharged fiestas to keep him amused usually .....so he needs someone to show him good quality vehicles 🤣🤣🤣

Do you plan on taking the bus back to the previous owners to let him see the transformation when it’s finished? I know I would.

Just noticed the first 4 letters of your passion wagon number plate:LOL:(y)
