mercedes autos

For what it's worth, we've had 3 m/homes with the sprintshift gearbox.

There was a saying

"if the gearshift is on the floor busy some more - on the dash - save your cash" or similar lines.

The old autos in that range with the 2.9 was 4G-Tronic

A post below on here from me from 2016 when someone asked the same question.

''An old mechanic I knew that used to buy and sell commercial vehicles used to tell apprentices the following poem when they went with him looking for Mercedes vans to buy and sell around yards.

If the gearstick's on the floor,
look around and buy some more
But if the gearstick's on the dash,
get outa there in a flash

Just look where the gear stick is on the model you are looking at;)''

It has always stuck with me, the old school mechanic knew a lot about engines.

Somehow I couldn't finish the sentence!, but I was going to say I've never had a minutes problem with any of them.
I think delivery drivers hammering the life out of their vans didn't help...
Cheers, Dave(y)

Our Motorhome SprintShift was 3 years old, travelled just 8,000 miles.

No end of issues with SprintShift and no help from Mercedes Resolutions

Mercedes Said the 416CDi Chassis was produced in South Africa, Right Hand Drive.
Shipped to Germany
Converted/Coach Built in Germany by Euramobil
Shipped to UK and sold with only a 2 year warranty (German warranty) as opposed to the UK 3 Year

Hi we have a 2005 Concorde Charisma on the 616 chassis with full auto that’s done 33000mls. On a good run we get 20mpg.
I do actually think it’s asking a lot of a 2.7 156bhp to lug around just short of 6tons but with the full auto and cruise control you just let it get on with it and it’s relaxing to drive.
Apart from the normal servicing after 10yrs make sure the diff oil is changed. Also that the auto is serviced. Ours wasn’t by Mertrux Nottingham and started leaking while in Portugal. The service kit replaces ‘o’ rings on the megatronics plug to the box that weep with age. Anyway all sorted by a brilliant garage in Faro for €180.
Other than a few niggles I would certainly recommend the merc.

Agh yes!

The sealed for life gearbox Mercedes claimed.

They have since gone back on that and now suggest 50,000 mile service kit with oil change.

Beware, I have had a Mercedes Truck Dealer (Enza(now Roanza)). Along with a independent Mercedes specialist claim to have serviced the gearbox and charged me for the privilege when the mechanic could not be bothered to even change the oil.

Mercedes service kits now come with a red seal. So when they snap the old black seal off (see photo I placed at the top of this post) it should be replaced with a red one from the kit.

That’s not to say if you have a red seal it’s been serviced properly. They may just drain and re-fill the oil.

Seriously, if I was boarding a plane at Manchester airport and it said “Mercedes” on the side instead of Boeing or Airbus. I wouldn’t get on the ****** thing.
