Melamine or china

Another vote for Corelle.

We also now have some of the Ikea version at home that we recently bought. Stupid price of 50p per plate or bowl, no matter what size. I think they were selling them off. But they do not appear to be as robust as Corelle.

Dinner sets? We carry two plates, two mugs and two glasses..Melamine plates but proper mugs and glasses..Why would two of us need more.?BUSBY.
We have two of everything as well as just the 2 of us, the Ikea Samtidig for plates and bowls and Ikea Vardagen glasses - tempered glass, 2 china mugs; plus 2 dog bowls for the hairy pair.

Ikea tempered glass crockery, china mugs and real glasses.

Here’s the Ikea set, a little more than the 50p an item they do (£10 for 12 pieces) but a fraction of the Corelle price and we prefer it.

That looks the same as the 50p a piece ones!

We have melamine from the boat - no taste, and it stays where you place it.

Might not be the cheapest option but we too use Corelle
Microwave safe, tough as old boots and lightweight

Another vote for tempered glass (Corelle, Arco or other brands). Much lighter than ceramic, does not chip and just feels better than melamine. We picked up some cheap tempered glass plates from a Spanish supermarket after breaking our ceramic ones and wouldn't look back. If you do break them (which is quite difficult), they end up as tiny fragments like when you break a windscreen, not terribly sharp, but a bit of a pain to clear up.

Replaced our melamine set with stainless steel plates, bowls and thermal mugs. Light and indestructible. Found them in the National Trust shop.

Another vote for Corelle . Have managed to knock plate off work top , bounce down step and out of hab door onto hard standing .... and didn’t even chip!

Denby because it’s apparently “worth the extra weight”. But a China cup for tea is a must.

Bamboo and Lakeland picnic plates but real glasses. That’s for us- van laden with many other irresistible plates from France supermarkets and 2 sets of cutlery for the odd times we have the kids..sigh..

I use China for my plates cups mugs etc.
Crystal for most of my drink glasses, all bought from charity shops no big outlay easily replaced but feels6a little bit special.

I also use enamel! Apart from being very fashionable now, you can cook things in it! But china mugs and glass glasses! And before you say something - I don't have a microwave!

Ikea tempered glass plates and bowls..50p per item. Just wished they did similar for mugs.
To be fair even Corelle don't do mugs. If you buy a set you get matching stonewear mugs so I'm guessing there might be a problem? Someone told me once they can't attach handles to Corelle glass mugs but I don't know if this is correct.

I know Corelle say there’s a problem with the mugs but I still have my white Asterix the Gaul mug from my French exchange trip in 1973 and that is Arcopal tempered glass and you see lots of the transparent brownish stuff about made into mugs and plain white so it might be a cost thing. Our Corelle came with the usual chunky plain white mugs.

Now there's an idea! Never even thought of S/S.

Mason's Ironstone (very heavy) "Blue Denmark" dinner service. Some pieces are nearly 100 years old. Lead crystal wine glasses - like Carol, most of these have been bought in charity shops for a few pence. "The Old Man" has his muesli every morning in a Royal Doulton Bunnykins bowl.
One of my hobbies is collecting old china and I can't bring myself to use plastic. Just call me Hyacinth!

Made one of these to house the plates and bowls. (y)
