Medical insurance

They all load up where there are medical issues

Hardly surprising as people with medical issues must be more likely to claim. I think that previously you had to declare medication to nationwide but in the case of BP meds if you were well controlled on just one there wasn't an extra cost. I'm not at all surprised at it being treatment on your medical notes that counts even if you don't get it made up or take them in fact I wouldn't be surprised if not getting a recommended prescription made up and not taking it cancelled any cover for a related illnesses after all they don't generally dish stuff out willy nilly if you decide to risk it why would anyone else pay?

We were previously with Barclays through our account, but they have changed the terms so have had to change, we have gone with "insure with" but had to take a policy for 56 days as the annual policy would only cover 31 days! Annoyingly this was more than an annual policy, but even so they were about 1/7th of other similar policies.
There are numerous codes giving a 20% discount, but if needed ce20 works.

Something that I reckon will catch a lot of people is chronic kidney disease. I bet there will be people on here who’ve had high blood pressure treatment for years but have gradually crept into the mild to moderate category (stage 3a ) when you should declare it on travel insurance.

Sometimes GPs can be not specific when they tell people. They might say that your kidneys have been affected so it’s important to keep your BP well controlled , not smoke etc but won’t actually specifically say tell your travel insurance person. It’s worth knowing as they can use it to get out of things as your risk of heart attacks is increased.

It used to be thought of as a normal part of aging.

I knew this so had been watching Nick’s bloods and knew to tell Lloyd’s last year. We now pay an add on but insurance companies will wriggle out of things if they can!

Aren’t I just a cheery soul!

The Wino I am not so sure if you have a medical issue you are on treatment and questions determine whether or not under control, it's the nothing wrong folk who suddenly need heart surgery and repatriation, or those who have accidents who are more of a risk.

I think if that was the case the premiums would reflect it. It's the same with annuity quotes they have a big body (unfortunate term given the context!) of evidence to go on as to who is likely to have a longer life on average. Yes there are people who have no underlying issues and suddenly become ill but many more previously stable for a while on treatment who deteriorate or have one condition that makes them more prone to others.

We got good joint annual cover last year from Loveitcoverit. It was an AXA policy I think. No problem covering me, I've had a stroke I take small dose statin and antiplatelet meds and I'm asthmatic. Was under £200. It was cheaper than getting individual policies from most others.
