Maybe It Would Be A Good Idea If...

So no ideas yet of a possible warning signal?

Sorry no.... not from me anyway...
Last year.... M6 came up behind a Hymer and Mrs Poppycamper said " look his sky light is open", ok is say..... I will pull along side him and you can try and let him know......
Well Mrs Poppycamper very rarely finds the need to express herself with the "F", "B" or even the "C" word but by christ she let rip on this occassion ...
When I looked over the tosser in the Hymer was giving her a full broadside of offensive hand gesture signals.
So IMO leave your windows/skylight open at your peril.!!!👹👹👹👹

We have a dream catcher attached to the catch of the skylight above the fixed bed.it has worked as warning the skylight is up twice now.it was not put up for this purpose .
If the skylight is up ,I can only see half of it dangling in the rear view mirror. When down I can see it all.👍

I quite regularly see motor homes coming towards me with their roof light hinged up sideways and wobbling as the van pushes its way through the air.

I try pointing upwards as I go by, but I doubt this signal is very effective.

Could we come up with some kind of signal to warn fellow motorhomers of this problem?

After all, if it blows off the result could be quite expensive...

Any ideas anyone?

A police type stinger?

We do see this occasionally, and have accidentally left ours open a few times, the noise informs us but I drive and swmbo is too short to reach the crank without standing on a seat occupied by a dog so has to wait till we can stop somewhere.
No idea how you could signal this to anyone though short of carrying a set of signs to hold up while overtaking them (would have to be multilingual too)

I suppose you could raise an arm to indicate the angle of the vent, but there's a risk of misinterpretation.

Wasn't meant to be a bloody doomsday thread... it was actually meant to be sensible thread trying to help motorhomers who have forgotten to shut their roof vent...

I do it. I point upwards rapidly several times. Also good for loose stowage and stuff. But you have to hold your hand to the side or they might think that it was a different single-digit gesture.

Pointing downwards for flats, broken exhaust pipes or trailing EHU cables ripped out of power sockets

I open and close my fingers rapidly if their indicator isn't working (inc motorbikes), but it could easily be that they are too much of a git to actually use their indicator.

I am just amazed when i see anything like that. If I stop, any time I stop, I walk round and check everything. Don't others?

We have a routine where he walks round the outside and I check the inside. Not foolproof though :(

We were at a fuel station and there was a hire van with roof light wide open next to us - I said he might find it blew away. I had to explain that these things were expensive to replace as well as posing a danger to other road users if it did come adrift. I didn't wait around to see if it was wound down as I didn't want to be behind him when he left!
