Hi , stuck on a site in Bunree nr Fort William . Got onto site and tried putting the satellite up …. It span around as normal for a while but didn’t pick up a signal , then it died ! To add to our problems we smelt an ‘eggy’ smell and were advised it was our leisure battery. So we called out a local guy who replaced the leisure battery (£300 !!) , so that’s bit fine but satellite still up . I’ve tried replacing the little fuse ( 4amp ) with spares I had …. First of all a light did come on on Maxview seeker wireless box thingy but then nothing again !
So in a bit of a dilemma 🙄
Can’t seem to call out anyone as it’s Easter weekend ( even if I could find someone local who’s knows what’s what ) and obvs can’t drive anywhere with a dish stuck in the air .
I’m a technophobe and pretty much useless and only had our first motorhome 4 months .
Any advice very much appreciated

If all else fails find someone with a ladder, slacken the pivot bolts and lower the dish and retighten the bolts to get you home, but don't forget to slacken them before trying the dish again, set it to park and re tighten the bolts which should put it back in the right position.

Worth also checking the fuse that feeds the sat unit, Media / Tv feed power etc. Also worth starting the engine up (before slackening the bolts) as that uses another feed from engine battery and not leisure battery, assuming it has been wired up correctly. This feed is for "left the dish up and driving away" protection. Have you got a meter with you by any chance?

No , haven’t got a meter unfortunately. Thanks for advice though 👍

Don’t think that will work as dish currently facing the wrong way 🙁

Have you another 4 amp fuse you can try replacing in the Maxi-View seeker control unit , as if your Maxi view system is the same as my Ma-Ve satellite system , (which it may not be ) the dish will not come down even when the engine is started if that fuse is faulty/blown

put in a 5 amp fuse ( that’s lowest I had ) , still didn’t work. 🙁
can’t even get hold of anyone until tues morning as offices all shut for Easter and we’re supposed to be leaving site then ! Obvs can’t drive Moho with sat up

Do you have breakdown cover ? as you cannot drive it due to this problem , and they may be able to help in lowering it or remove it from the roof if needed .
There also should be another 5 amp inline fuse that may be found near the leisure battery that could be faulty or has not been reconnected when the leisure battery was replaced .

This happened to us once in Germany with a euro sat dish.
Desperate measures were required so borrowed ladder from site and removed entire dish from roof. Ie unscrewed nuts removed wires and took entire unit from roof with help of fellow motorhomer. The units are heavy although I suspect the max view is lighter than the euro sat one. We had to store it in the motorhome until we got home 3 weeks later.
Good luck with repair.

As Rb62 says, slacken the two bolts to let the dish down and re-tighten. As long as the dish is aligned front to back there is no need to remove the whole unit. We had similar problem in France last year, 20mm socket required if I remember correctly. MaxView rebuilt unit, previous owner had used 10amp fuse to overcome increased resistance.

Unfortunately the satellite dish is facing the wrong way

Have you started the engine yet? If you have and the dish didn't move you only have a couple of options left.
Ask to extend your stay and buy a multimeter to trace the feed and see if you can fix it. Or find an auto spark to locate the fault, both of these assume that you have no power to the Maxview unit and not that it has "popped".
Call Maxview early doors Tuesday and see if they can help.
Borrow some ladders, remove the dish face (four Phillips screws from memory) and stow it somewhere safe and unable to be dented / crushed / distorted. Then disconnect the LNB holder (one Phillips screw) so you can undo the f connection (s), pull the cables down the feed arm to release them and then using a socket (17mm from memory) remove the feed arm and dish face fixing.
This will leave you with the cables to tie up and secure on the roof so they can't float around in the wind whilst driving home. Leaving the motor head up on the roof won't be a problem as it has very low wind resistance whichever way it is pointing.
Driving with the dish up regardless of its position won't end well and could do some serious damage to the roof or even worse if it detaches.
Shout if you need more help, removing the dish face etc is not a technical job, refitting it is best left to a pro.

UptheGas As you said that the power light came on when you first replaced the fuse in the control box have you tried another fuse , in case the first replacement was faulty. (which can happen ) If this fuse is still ok , Have you been able to find the other ( 5amp ) fuse that links the system to the leisure battery.

Here are the instructions for the Maxview seeker if it helps ....

Antenna stuck in elevated position
DO NOT TRAVEL UNITIL ANTENNA UNIT IS REMOVED
Remove antenna unit from roof by releasing 6 x M6 Nuts. position Carefully lift and place antenna unit on its side so that the underneath is accessible. Remove plastic connector covers with a pozi no2 screwdriver. Disconnect cables so that antenna
unit can be removed from roof. Make sure cables are secured to roof before travelling.

Cheers

Doesn’t matter if the dish facing the wrong way you should still be able to take just the dish off undoing the two nuts (think they are either 17 or 19mm). This assumes you have a ladder and the right spanner of course.

Fuses blown are a good indicator of a short circuit. Specially if a replacement fuse blows also!
This happened to me 2 years ago. My solution was;
Behind the EC500 Sargent P.S.U. there is another in line fuse. Which in my case had blown. Replaced and sorted.
Be very careful when pulling EC 500 out.
240v and 12v supply disconnected!

Thanks for all the suggestions, will try and replace one of the 5 amp fuses by the leisure battery ( no idea which one !) . If that doesn’t work hopefully we can get through to Maxview office on Tuesday morning for help .
I’ve no tools or ladder on board and I’m pretty hopeless anyway so don’t really want to go down that route😂

Tried the three 5 amp fuses ….. all looked fine so don’t think it’s that .

Slack off the bolts and manually lower dish for now.

When Maxview are open give them a call but write a note and leave it with the controller as a reminder.

One final thought which got us out of jail when ours stuck. Give the wires at the back of the box a wiggle. They do work loose.

I had something similar with previous van, ex ept it wouldn't go up. The bearings can get stiff or seize if it hasn't been used for a while and eventually it gives up. Mine needed new bearings and some other part, both of which had to be ordered, not in stock. Repaired by nice people in Taunton.

Hi 👋 there,
This happened to me on my Oyster 85 system when I was abroad, so I phoned the experts Jacksons satellites, and he told me to do the same as rb62 said, i.e. loosen the two bolts at the bottom of the arms and close the dish manually, then retighten the bolts, don't overtighten, and next time you put the dish up it should be all ok again 👍 hope this helps you.

If it's dropped as far as possible and securely tighten back up it shouldn't make much difference which way it's pointing.
It’s currently angled towards the Truma air conditioning unit so it wouldn’t go flat….. unless it can be spun round ?
