Condolences to the family. She sounds an amazing lady.RIP.

I just learned today the terribly sad news that Mavis died at the end of November. What a lady she was. Given three months to live in 2009, she fought Mesothelioma and fought for others who had it. What a difference she made. She became a hero to me and so many others.

One of the original Funsters She used to attend a lot of rallies but the last ten years of her life every ounce of her energy was taken up by helping others with charity work, inspiring others and running her foundation

Here is Mavis on the left, giving my wife,Siân a cuddle - almost 5 years after being given 3 months to live. What a warrior.

RIP Mavis
Inspirational is putting it mildly.
God speed

I was only thinking about her the other day and wondering what had happened. She was on Facts a lot when we first bought our motorhome and she sounded lovely.
Condolences to Ray.

I never met Mavis. I was in awe of her strength and selfless determination. RIP.

Mavis was a wonderful lady and she and Ray did so very much for people with mesothelioma. She worked with firms that eradicated it. She had so many different trials, the last two were done specifically for her, having got the all clear. She stayed clear for about 2 years plus, when it started back. She had formed her own charity which I believe sponsors a nurse specialist in mesothelioma.

Ray had blogged for her in the last few months when she could no longer do it.

Her funeral was a private family affair on 12th December. We need to help Ray now who obviously has taken it hard after 63/4 years married.

I first got to know Mavis during our facts days. I remember when she was diagnosed and the strength of her spirit that she would fight the disease with every strength she had. My goodness she kept that commitment and more, she not only fought it for herself but for so many more. She was a courages, inspirational and truly exceptional lady, may she rest in peace.
Our thoughts are with Ray and their family.

Like Carol, and Stewart above, we knew Mavis and Ray from our days rallying with FACTS. She was a lovely friendly and caring lady, and became an absolute legend for her cause, with her Mesothelioma Warriors, and later with her foundation.

What a lot of people don't know, is that Mavis was also instrumental in helping to have adjustments made at the Canterbury Park & Ride, which so many of us have used in the years since it was set up. She was often in touch with Colin, the chap in charge of it's administration. For example, she was responsible for making sure a separate tap for fresh drinking water was installed, well away from the single tap folks were using to rinse their cassettes.
So, the next time you are using the MH facilities at the Canterbury P & R, spare a thought for Mavis please.
We often met up with them both when passing through, and would have a drink and a meal in the city.

RIP Mavis, you lovely wonderful woman. ❤️

Jock & Rita.
