Marquis

I’m dithering because it’s basically a new van, 2020 with less than 1000 miles on the clock, kinda makes me nervous
My concern (regardless of dealer) is if it has been a demo/show model, it will have had THOUSANDS of muppets through it, pulling it apart

My issue with Marquis was that they are expensive AND their (sales) staff have a staggering lack of technical knowledge

Ironic that a Marquis thread pops up when we are contemplating listing ours for sale ... I think it’s called “Sod’s Law” 😁

Please don't make unqualified generic statements like that, It leaves you and me open to accusations of libel.
Perhaps * Customer service and back up requires a revamp?( Not libel in anyway but what you experienced?) Everyone has had different relationships with motorhome dealerships. It is totally unfair to dismiss them as crap if you go in with both barrels, be reasonable, explain the problem, point out politely your rights as a consumer and the power of social media. Make NO threats and give them a reasonable time span to address your issues and 9 times out of 10 they will be totally honest with you, Be patient, we were told * Yes its defective but it may take up to 10 weeks to get the parts* Its not a problem as the base vehicle is Ford/Merc/Renault/Fiat its the factory that built it is the problem in the loop, no matter how hard you shout moan or complain the dealership is at the command of the builder. If its a major problem, suggest they lend you another van till yours is sorted, then you have not missed out or perhaps a free service for your inconvenience and hand on heart unless you live full time in the van be flexible. If after all that still not happy the Consumer rights act 2015 show you have been flexible, accommodating and reasonable and they have not got leg to stand on. Slagging off dealerships when others have had great service only alinates things , be calm , be concise and be reasonable, I know its hard when you have forked out a massive wedge but don't be guided by reviews as they can be easily faked. Go to the dealership and ask the hard questions and if need be get them to put it in writing. You are spending a massive amount of dosh, regardless of make so GET it in writing, / 1. What guarantee do you offer about leaks? 2. If I get a problem how long will you take to fix it and repair any damage? 3. Can I talk to your Service manager to see what you offer and will do , if I get rates that under cut you will you match?, 4 If I have bought an absolute Monday morning/Friday afternoon vehicle will you replace it? Don't be fobbed off with anything other than a yes or no and get it in writing, walk away if they don't want to play ball but any decent dealership will say yes

I see United have signed someone today :giggle:

They also bumped it and i had to wait an extra month before picking up but that was no problem for me, honesty is the one thing i want from a dealer and they wasnt.

We purchased our majestic 196 last year from marquis in Hampshire, the sales staff were brilliant, we've have a few niggles, but service have rectified them straightaway. Have even given us helpful advise over phone while away on a campsite.

Where is tucanos telling off
Come on I was very polite and didn't call them names:giggle:

You was just stating a fact, that you would not buy or recommend them, you didn’t slag them off so no Legal’s to worry about and Jim can rest easy tonight 👍🏻

Marquis must be doing something right as they are still in business when others are not. My experience of Marquis was less than rosy when in 1997 (oh what a long time ago!) we bought a brand new Swift Sundance (you can almost tell where this tale is going....!). PDI - what PDI?? It was back with them within a week with a 4 page, A4 page snagging list with the leading snag being in large letters "passenger seatbelt fixing bolt has the thread stripped and been held in with masking tape and pulled out on gentle braking at traffic lights". I should have rejected the van; I was too soft, but I would not accept the van back until all of the snagging list had been rectified. Oh yes, the MH gave almost 10 years of service and many happy memories but use Marquis again?? What do you think?

Be brave.

All the staff you dealt with in 1997 will have retired by now.(y):giggle:

Dont worry, it will be an ante-british-van opinion
Your profiel says you have an Elddis 285....great value single-bed van in my opinion

phew thank you so much, was starting to panic then.😁

It would seem that there is a variance in the service received from diffirent Marquis branches, I can only comment on the branch that myself and my brother have used, The Lower Upham branch in Hampshire, and the service from both sales and service have been very good. It migh be because that branch is where the whole franchise started and was the head office until it was acquired by Autosleeper and moved up north.

Take a measured view. Marquis are a huge dealership so there Will be many people who love them and many who don’t .
sales wise the seem great but after sales less so.
we found after sales sadly poor but we would buY again if it was the right van at the right price

I just had them come all the way from Durham to Glasgow to carry out another hab check as I’d I complained there was a figure missing from the damp report, I think they do try with after sales, at least Durham does anyway.

I bought a Marquis Majestic 155 off old-mo last year and despite some small issues flagged up on the Habcheck it’s been spot on (touches wood as we’re away in it next week)

I even found an old joke book under the bed...

I'm impressed.
You can read Latin?

Just be careful reading too much into comments
There are contributors on here that have had varying experiences with varying models and dealerships
I have had new Autotrail, Swift, Adria AND now Elddis....in 30 months and have dealt with varying manufacturer and dealership standards, including the dealers we didnt buy off

A lot of it is to do with geography as well....you WILL need support when your vehicle/conversion lets you down. Notice I said when not if

Happy to share my experience if asked, but my experiences don't make me “right”, they just give me opinions

Also, my choice is to not buy Used product, many on here would never buy new. Im not wrong or right as much as they are not wrong or right

Without choice, we would possibly be all driving Trabants.....but that’s another discussion😄

As far as my own experience with Marquis goes, I have on 2 separate occasions considered buying from them as they had models, layouts that suited, but got the impression that the sales staff were, frankly, lying to get my money, and making promises that their aftermarket would struggle to keep, even if they had the inclination to do so.
But, they do have the biggest network of branches, and that may appeal to some, although their front end pricing is a bit steep

Have bought a couple of vans from dealers.
I always buy with the view once I have collected the van the dealer is out of the equation !
Very careful inspection during pick up, and anything I miss or subsequently fails I look on as something either I will have to fix or get fixed..
Should a dealer offer any assistance I consider that a bonus
With that in mind the van has to be keenly priced so there is room left for any subsequent repair needed
Perhaps not the right attitude and not something every one can do, but it is a realistic approach to van purchase

Bought new from Marquis....started off well with good handover and few minor niggles sorted quickly....that’s where it finished as far as any customer service went.

Been back five times for same fault......arrived to find parts weren’t in stock, next time wrong parts delivered, then wrong colour, then workmanship so bad we refused to accept. Eventually fixed but took 15 months!

Back for another fault....faulty trip switch which I had explained fully.....can you send me a new one.....no,they needed to see it to confirm as warranty claim. Travelled three hours to get there, twenty seconds to confirm fault.....then told me didn’t have part in stock 🤬

Parts take months to arrive, warranty work has taken months to sort out and standard of workmanship from service department is questionable, their prices are grossly excessive compared to our local repair agent.

Eventually wrote a letter of complaint re outstanding faults still not fixed , been six weeks and not even the courtesy of a reply.

I’m not saying all is bad but my experience means we won’t buy from them again.
