Last year when I started seriously looking at Motorhomes I was constantly told “stay away from Marquis”

Both Individuals and dealers told me the same thing, we went to the NEC show and a supplier of aftermarket equipment told me that under no circumstances should I buy from Marquis, this is inconvenient as they are local, not the closest but the closest doesn’t have what I want.

But I’m looking to change our MH and guess who’s offered me a seemingly good deal........ Marquis..

my thinking is they have exactly what I want in stock, they’ve offered me only £1k less than I paid for our current van in February and a good discount on the new one.

I want a list of extras, but can get them all at Rhino and therefore it’s only warranty issues that will take me back to Marquis.

Ive spoken to two other dealers who have both not got back to me.

So are Marquis that bad, or is this old information, or maybe with a new van it doesn’t matter?

Mine is a Marquis a 2007 and there have been no major issues and never any dampness according to previous owner. Just make sure it’s not a Friday afternoon one😂

I can only tell you about our last experience with marquis. Brand new van that had massive faults including the skin of the roof making noise as the wind blew like a wobble board. Marquis were quick to take payment and very attentive till we collected. After sales service was diabolical. The roof?.....oh they all do that sir, it's normal. The plumbing just fell apart under pressure flooding the van. 6 weeks till they could even take a look.

fixed the faults myself and sold the van at 6 months to another dealer. I wouldn't touch them with any bargepole

Zero problems in over 3 years with our Marquis specced 2015 X290 based 195 other than the old chestnut of premature airbag ecu failure, which was dealt with by Peugeot & one misting rear shock absorber ( crap Fiat o.e. spec' ) & it was replaced as a pair, both issues obviously had nothing to do with Marquis or indeed Elddis.

From what I gather its a hit or a miss depending on the branch. I deal with Durham and they have come across very well so no complaints. I was quite adamant with what I wanted fixed.

I’m dithering because it’s basically a new van, 2020 with less than 1000 miles on the clock, kinda makes me nervous

Bought our motorhome from Marquis, and compared to some of the dealers we've used over the years, they are one of the better ones. Excellent handover - by far the best of any dealer, and minor problems since quickly sorted. There are one of two Marquis dealers who are a bit iffy, though they do seem to be improving greatly.

Just hope its not an Elddis you are looking at. :cautious:

Go for it - we’re on our second Marquis ‘van (a 120 and now a 155), both bought new. There were teething troubles but all fixed under warranty. Bought from their Ipswich and Tewkesbury branches. (y)

That’s the impression I’m getting, but I keep going back to my original search last year.

They had an Auto-sleeper almost new but with white overspray under a front wheel arch, obviously had some previous damage, but their explanation was clearly mis leading.

The dealings I have had at the Northampton branch of Marquis have been positive.

Our neighbour a couple of doors down bought a new Marquis Majestic 125 from Marquis Northampton 4 years ago.
It had a few of the usual post delivery niggle which needed sorting out under warranty and on the whole Marquis honoured them without much fuss, and when our neighbour was not up to driving after a chemo session, Marquis came over, picked up his MH and delivered it back to him rather than just re-book the work for another day.

We bought our van secondhand and not from Marquis, but when I had an electrical gremlin which I and a well known Funster in the MH trade could not trace, I booked it in to Marquis Northampton.
Not long after getting home, they phoned me to say they had found the fault and they had the relay unit in stock, which was £48 and did I want them to continue and fit it to which I said yes please.
1/4 of an hour later I got the call that our van was ready to pickup, so I'm happy with their service.

I bought a van (pre registered) from Marquis Ipswich. Got a really good deal. The after sales can only be described as willing but incompetent....... gave up in the end as it was easier to fix myself

We bought ours from Marquis in Birtley.
They did a good deal for us. The van was handed over on time and all the equipment was fully explained. Because of CV-19 we have hardly used it but, as with most vehicles, there were a couple of snags. They got us straight in and sorted them out. From our experience, their sales and after sales service has been spot on.

Hi.
Bought one mo/ho and two c/vans Northampton depot, sales were by Chris Bennion an American chap..Fonte ? and Paul ?. ( Who i nick named Crusher because of his handshake :ROFLMAO:) All deals were spot on and when c/van developed "Water problems " we were at " Donna Nook " ( Don Amotts Site 10/10 ) warching the baby seals. Chris Bennion asked where we were and offered to bring up another c/van so we could continue our stay. There was no need,as the site had toilet and shower blocks.plus a restaurant. When we came home to Derbyshire,it was arranged we took our van in and they lent us another c/van. Chris, the American chap and Paul have/had moved up the ladder, but i am sure their customer care will still be the same.
Fingers crossed for you on this one.

The American chap was the one at Ipswich with whom I dealt. It went downhill after he left

Have they given an explanation for such a new van with very low mileage being for sale? Did they supply it new? With so many branches their service will be across spectrum. My local branch seemed unable to grasp concept of someone who used van all year rather than 2 weeks in summer and who was therefore most unhappy at being expected to wait months for repairs. Oh and in my case everything had to be referred back to Spain. As said previously if you deal with people who care, service should be ok

Bought our first van from Marquis Preston, sales were excellent and we got a good deal ........... but having collected it after the very poor handover and on the way home we discovered that the habitation door would not lock, the engine oil was below minimum, various lockers would not latch properly etc etc etc.
Took it back on the Monday for fixing and managed to get a tank full of diesel out of them for our troubles but ultimately a poorly prepared van with water leaks on the water input, leaking roof vents etc.
Would not use again as after sales service very poor.

Would recommend Marquis Tewkesbury
We will buy again from them the only reason we didn't this time wS Kate really liked the bailey.
I have got my eye on a auto sleep warwick duo xl.
Will be popping into the Tewkesbury branch next Saturday 👍

We bought our present Majestic 125 from Marquis, Tewksbury. Their sales team were excellent.

We have had some issues, the rear view camera failed twice, both changed under warranty, and the water filler pipe to the fresh water tank had been cut too short at build and leaked, also repaired under warranty. Otherwise the motorhome seems pretty well screwed together. It is our eighth m/h so we have something to compare it to.

We have found the after-sales service very good. They moved heaven and earth to exchange our second rear view camera in time for our trip to France.

While travelling in France I damaged the rear off-side light lens and rang them for a replacement. They explained that they could order one from Elddis but, as it is a standard Boxer rear light unit, they suggested going direct to Peugeot as it would be quicker and cheaper. When I explained that I only wanted the lens, not the entire unit, they suggested using gaffer tape to cover the small hole and ringing breakers yards to locate the lens. They could have booked it in and presented me with a large bill, (Peugeot quote for light unit £116 + VAT), but gave sensible advice.

We would use them again.

Marquis Tewkesbury is where we got ours they promised all jobs were fixed they was not, have to keep chasing to get things done. Maybe you get a better service if you buy new

Had 3 Autosleeper Mercedes from Marquis Plymouth, minor problems all fixed, have now moved to the dark side and bought a caravan from Marquis, if I was to buy another Motorhome Marquis Plymouth would be my first stop, and with Autosleeper you can even get service and repairs at the factory, had a door spring go while on holiday rang the factory who said call in on your way home which I did and door fixed at once.
Don

Last time i was there to fix the air con they took the camper to another place and came back with a windscreen chip. I informed them but they couldnt care less, and they didnt fix the the air con

I think you need to forget all the reviews who have had no problems. You only really find out who does good service when a problem arises. Looks like they are a bit mixed but better than our experience with Lowdhams!

On the other hand........

.......those who have had good service/no problems tend not to report.

Those who have had problems complain (rightly so), and post.

With Marquis it appears that some depots are better than others. Our experience with Tewksbury has been good. That’s all we can report.

So no credit where credit is due then ?

Have a look on line at the motorhome parked up outside Marquis in Preston last year with the massive slogans on the back! In the end they gave the customers his money back! We went to the same dealership and asked about leaking issues and the salesperson was brutally honest with his answer * You stick a caravan on the back of a transit/fiat/renault/mercedes van chassis, its going to leak at some stage as they will flex about the time they are driven on the roads, some are better than others,* We left and did not buy. we did look at Carado they had in stock and he had no idea they were built by the Hymer company! Did not inspire confidence, We then went to Lowdhams via other motorhome dealerships and sat in a Carado , liked it, knocked 7 grand off the asking price with *Cash deal, no trade in walk away today!* * I will have to speak with my boss!* Walked to hut, came out 5 mins later and said * No * we said * Not messing bye bye genuine offer* and walked off, 30 secs later * Okay we can do!* Go at the end of the month when they have to sell! The Hobby was again a good deal but beset my minor problems all sorted eventually The Pilote , a few minor issues sorted straight away great contact and as said before home phone numbers of salesmen and workshop manager given and told any problems contact us . we had we did ! Sorted next working day and great customer service, i know some have moaned about vans advertised not being on site but let them know you are coming and they will be there, limited area for display so kept undercover at remote site so may have 10 miles on it! , Oh the dealership? Signature motorhomes at Preston 5 star service!

The opposite if someone has had a problem and had really good service sorting it out like the post where they offered a loan caravan for the rest of the holiday credit bigtime. I think all dealers must have lucky motorhomes that just don't have anything wrong it might partly be good pdi so credit a bit there but when problems occur thats when good service really shows.
A good business sees a customer complaint as an opportunity to really impress someone we ran a totally different busines for 27 years never advertised relied on word of mouth. Thats when you need a good reputation.
