Manoeuvring on site: are walkie-talkies a good idea?

There is a Walkie-talkie app for the iPhone. Don’t know how far apart it works, but saves having to buy them if you want to just try and see if it is something you want to do. (y)(y)
However the iPhones cost about a grand each ;)

Thanks everybody who posted, especially Zigisla.
Googled iPhone walkie talkie apps and downloaded Zello.
Hil and I tried it out. There is a slight delay and you have to keep your thumb/finger on the very large virtual button, but it works. We will try it out when we are out together.

We downloaded the app called “Walkie-talkie - the yellow one. Once you press the button no need to keep your thumb on it. Select a frequency invite a contact and away you go.(y) Not used in anger yet, but all looks good on the "can you hear me" trial from room to room. in the house:LOL::LOL:

We use them and I find them very useful. I’m more than happy to manoeuvre with rear camera and mirrors, BUT, why not make the most of a pair of eyes outside? They also help with driving onto ramps which can’t be seen from the drivers seat, and also for random questions whilst booking into campsites, or shopping if I’m staying in the van.

There is also the benefit that I can manoeuvre and let her think she is helping whilst I can just ignore the chatter.

I noticed quite a number of German large vans being guided out of sites by wives with walkie talkies this year.

Definitely will give it a try.

I’m never sure if my wife is directing me or trying to swat away a swam of wasps.

For those interested there are quite a few 'Walkie-Talkie' apps available for Android phones in the Google App Store.

I tried one 'Zello' and it works quite well, having said that it's not likely something I would use, having a 6m van with mirrors and a rear camera, there's not really a need for a banksman.
