Maintenance Advice Please

Risky trying to cut corners or DIY. Thought I'd save time and money by going to Ford garage for first service and habitation check. Damp found, so went to the dealer I bought 'van from, to make warranty claim. They said habitation check has to be done by place recognised by Chausson, like them! So another check had to be done, but "only" cost £228. That did however back-date it, and dealt with the claim to Chausson.

Some manufacturers are okay with you using an independent place for the hab service but that is pretty rare so it is vital to read the T&Cs of the warranty to ensure that you do exactly as required, as you've unfortunately found out it proved to be an expensive exercise but you were lucky that they honoured the warranty as they could have just said no. Part of the reason for the hab to be done by an authorised place is that the info has to be put into the manufacturer's system afterwards (Chausson being one that requires this - we used to have a Chausson) and obviously independent places can't do that.

The Dealer we purchased our Sunlight from, said to comply with the 5 year warranty, we could have the Hab checks done anywhere.........as long as they are Sunlight Dealers or authorised by Sunlight.

Pretty narrow choices there then as I haven’t come across an Independent that’s authorised. 🤷‍♂️

£250 with our Dealer.:censored:

When buying our present house, surveyor was not happy with a large sycamore tree near the house.
Mortgage people insisted on an independent tree survey. I got a well respected local guy to do the survey and submitted his report.
Mortgage people said he did not have enough letters after his name, however, they had their own 'tame' guy.
Tame guy carried out survey and produced report and what do you know.
Both reports were identical and I mean identical !!!!!!

The engine side comes with long life oil so no need to change that for 24000 or two years which ever comes first.
That's the one thing I ignore , as my mechanic said the cheapest mechanic is a gallon of oil , I don't do anything like the miles I used to but when I was driving 80k a year the oil was changed every 10k , when I sold my 3.0 iveco daily it had 330,000 miles on it and had never let me down once.

I bought a pump from Lidl for under £20 that sucks it out of the dipstick hole so it's even easier

There is NO need to use a Fiat dealer service who seem to be very expensive . Independent garages are much cheaper, warranty is covered so long as genuine Fiat products are used.
