Was rushing home early from a weekend away due to a family emergency, and kept just accepting the stream of "faster route" suggestions from the satnav.

Unfortunately it took us momentarily on the M6 toll road (for about 5 miles) and we had to pay - FIFTEEN QUID!!!!!!!!!!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..............

I had to go to cannock a few weeks ago :crying: road works traffic lights and every road sign say toll this way

When I went thru last week the electronic prices board was blank, yet to see how much they debited; that's out of order IMHO.
Also good point about lack of traffic info for alternative; official info or sales pitch?

Back from Ludlow on bank holiday Monday and did the same and it was £12.30 for the Knaus Sky Ti 700mx sub 3.5mt. Nice tarmac and got home in time to wash and put it away. Google maps and forgot to check "no tolls" in the settings.😳

I made the same mistake without the excuse of an emergency, just made the mistake of following the Nav 🙄

Being a local off junc 11/12 we use it to our advantage, like if you short on time to get to Birmingham airport etc. Also if you say passing through the rush hour 3-6pm junc 9/10 is a nightmare with continuous roadworks at junc 9. Also notorious for accidents on same stretch, so always best check google maps and if in red forget it and pay the 15 quid and save an hour or so sitting at a standstill !

“5 miles momentary” 🤭

I presume you meant that the route decision was momentary

Their road, their rules.

Never used it, never will ... hubby was in a panic last time we were down that way in case the sat nav took us on it!

We now use "the old route" to visit family or tour Scotland A1/M1 to Scotch Corner, then nip across the A66 to Penrith onto The M6, then cheap fuel stop, stock up with square sausage/black pudding etc at Asda North Carlisle, then on to Ayrshire.(y)
LES
Yes, Asda North Carlise is a great stop, very handy and good parking. We stop there when going to visit our son, sometimes we meet up there. So handy for the M6 and A7 etc. Superstore, cafe, fuel so just about everything necessary is available plus for the people who like a drink it's in England so no alcohol minimum pricing.

French Toll on A6 Recently Cost us €16.80 for 114km. Thats in todays exchange at €1.15463 to £1 = 12.2p per km

£15 for 43km on the M6 equates to 35p per Km if I have got my sums correct. So close on 3 x the French Rates.

I was blindly following the satnav as we were racing home to tend to my wife's mum who'd just had a heart attack, and I'm pretty sure CoPilot didn't warn me of the toll (though I may just have not noticed).

I was on that toll road for a small handful of miles before we merged on to the M42(?) which was at a stand still due to roadworks at that junction and an accident.

I reckon, had I gone the non-toll route I might have missed that tailback, though I guess I'll never know.

But no, I meant I was on the toll/M6 momentarily, relatively speaking :)
