LPG.

Not true! We live in Kent and there are at least 2 garages within 15 miles, possibly more, that sell LPG. The closest one being Morrisons. We invariably top up there as it's the cheapest one around but we're happy to fill up wherever we happen to be if we've started on the 2nd bottle. Don't bother otherwise.
Where please:

As we have Gaslow and drive up and down the A2/M2 on a regular basis and our van is stored at Rochester airport.

(Other than Shell Mackinade in Faversham or Shell MFG in Birchington as both are in the process of stopping selling autogas)

I thought Morrison’s were not selling LPG after the motorhome fire. I stand corrected.
It is hard enough getting Calor bottles changed here for strange reason considering the amount of statics on the camps.

Sittingbourne.

Sittingbourne.
Where ?

Not Morrisons:

Morrisons will not permit filling of any portable gas vessel in any of our LPG stations, some manufacturers state that they have an approved LPG filling tank but unlike vehicles that make use of LPG they have an annual MOT to assess safety, Morrison's will not take any risk with allowing customers to use portable gas vessels or fill motorhomes , our stance is the position of least risk. If customers present a safety certificate to show that their motorhome/gas vessel is fit to fill i.e (tested regularly) then we would still not allow this, reason being is because our staff cannot be expected to be experts in and inspect portable vessels and recognise their technical qualifications.

Don't know if it's still there but coast bound services of m2 used to have it filled up a couple of years ago and flogas depot at Ridham dock was another place to fill might be worth giving them a ring

Been filling up at sittingbourne Morrison's for 8 years now they normally ask if we are going away or coming back

Great!
I'll try it.

Obviously someone at Morrisons Sittingbourne has not read their internal office memo's :giggle:

My understanding of Morrissons policy is that they only allow filling of fixed tanks (underslung or boot tanks in cars) but not removable cylinders.
Will try and fill at my local Morrissons when I hear we are free to go touring, hopefully July.

I've looked into if further;

Following this incident back in 2014, where a motorhome with a DIY GasLow installation was blown up (with little/no damage to the Morrisons installation), Morrisons have an official blanket ban on filling motorhomes with LPG.
It's not a logical ban, but it's a ban never the less.

I have a maritime background, so have long been aware that a fully loaded LPG ship going up would have the same 'bang' as the nuclear bomb at Hiroshima, but without the radioactive fall out, hence the reason all LPG port facilities are always built where a nuclear level blast would have minimal effect.

It would appear Morrisons (and Shell) have taken this to heart, and simply decided that LPG is more of a problem than it's worth, even though petrol is infinity more dangerous.

I find this very confusing and cannot find the Morrisons comment that has formed my opinion, so I have written to them asking for a definitive reply and they expect to reply within 7 working days.

The word is Shell are moving out of the Autogas market.

Which means large areas of the country (for example Kent, with a population of 1.6m and through which almost every single EU based vehicle passes) will have zero autogas filling stations
18 in kent on my lpg finder

I dont trust the MYLPG.EU any more as its not always updated often enough, so if possible I make a call and ask before going, having learned the hard way.
I posted the same caution earlier this year when my local Shell (A 23 at Hickstead) was refurbed last year and the LPG pump was removed.
I used MyLPG and phoned first as I knew that one shown on the map had never had LPG. Of the six I phoned within a 40 mile radius two had never had LPG, two said there's had been removed, one didn't answer to phone. I notified MMYLPG.
That's why I have two bottles connected in the locker, one Gaslow refillable and the other Calor exchange.

Ik I remember correctly a couple of years ago Morrison said they were in partnership with a refillable gas bottle company

Even without the Shell garages there are still 8 left in Kent by my count.

In Birmingham/Walsall there are four suppliers I can think of, two were set up for the taxi drivers in the area and always seem busy.

I am not worries yet. Two have opened up in two years within driving distance.

Morrisons in Strood and Sittingbourne, others at Dover (BP), MInster (Texaco), Cranbrook, Ashdene, East Peckham (Coop), and Aylesford

Yes you're right - it's Safefill, and they have a list of Morrisons with LPG on their website

Just had a look at the Safefill alliance with Morrisons, I must say I am not surprised seeing the results we dont have any in Surrey, infact compared with the north & south west, we dont have many at all, I wonder why?
Oh dont tell me....Range Rovers,Mercs,BMW's & Audi dont normally run on LPG:giggle:
It is also true that Shell are phasing out LPG, as one branch manager did tell me, also there was a quote from Shell when a Funster asked them directly, it was posted on here at the time.
I am envious, well slightly of you guys up north being able to get it from Morrisons, I normally have to pay the higher motorway prices at Shell & BP garages en route to somewhere, last time it was 76P/Ltr, but I have to admit I was just happy to get it.
So fill up all ye northerners before coming south, as its getting rarer down here.
Break my heart to have to pay for a calor re-fill, last time I bought a 6KG was 3 years ago, when we had the caravan, In Bude, Cornwall, and it cost me £22.25 then, so how much is the 11KG nowadays?

There were 3 shell garages within 5 miles of me in december they are now all gulf but they never sold lpg anyway.

Theres one gleamer garage 4 miles from me that sells lpg but its £0.76 per litre so I drive a further 10 miles to morrisons that sell it for £0.53 per litre.
That sounds like an economic journey.

If Shell are withdrawing from LPG that is going to be a massive problem. I suspect, with the increasing use of hybrid and electric cars, LPG just doesn't have sufficient volume to maintain supply so once a garage runs out of current stock, that is it.

If your van has an underslung lpg tank for the cooking / heating, and you have no space to fit a removable bottle, what are going to be the options?

Looks like it's going to be the Autogas supplied LPG Shell and other filling stations that are closing:

<Broken link removed>

So really you can't " be sure of shell " afterall.

Theres probably less demand as they are more expensive than the supermarkets selling it.

I mean theres a screenshot of my local ones ...Asda and morrisons a good 20p a litre cheaper ....25%

That's why a lot of petrol stations closing too as they are more expensive than the supermarkets.

You lucky Bugger!, I dont have any "supermarkets" down my way selling gas, only garages, mainly Shell, so they will be on the way out also.
Even if it was a £1 a litre I would have to pay that, as its still a lot cheaper than Calor Refillable s which, as we all know are a rip off.
Apart from us, its only fork lifts that seem to need LPG these days, I was wondering it the large chilled Trailer HGV's used it for their compressors, hence why LPG is sometimes available on motorways, as that would be better for the planet, but they must be using diesel?, someone will know.
Ah well, happy days eh?

Perhaps you could search for a national supplier such as Calor Gas.
There is a depot in Portsmouth address:- 3D Voyager Park North, Portfield Road, PO35FN.
They distribute the bottles as well, they could be more expensive but only a few pence more.

Looks like many of the Shell and other garages are supplied through Flogas who confusingly also refer to Autogas. Flogas don't make references on their site to withdrawing. For TinaL there seem to be listings of Flogas Shell at Fleet and Addlestone: https://www.flogas.co.uk/stockists
